Özet

Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the antimicrobial and cytotoxic activities of n-hexane chloroform and methanol extracts prepared from the aerial parts of P. chamaepeuce (L.) Less. (Asteraceae). Material and Method: The antimicrobial activities of the extracts on standard bacterial strains (Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, Escherichia coli, Salmonella enterica, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacillus subtilis and Streptococcus pneumoniae) and fungal strains (Candida albicans and C. parapsilosis) were examined by microdilution method and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values were determined. The cytotoxic activity of the extracts was investigated by cell proliferation assay using WST-1 reagent on various cancer cell lines including HeLa, U2OS, PC3, MCF-7, and A549 cancer cell lines. Result and Discussion: The MIC values of n-hexane, chloroform and methanol extracts were between 250-1000 µg/mL against S. aureus, E. faecalis and B. subtilis. n-hexane and chloroform extracts had varying levels of cytotoxic activity in all tested cancer cell lines (IC50: 21.0-67.1 ?g/mL). © 2022 University of Ankara.
