The aim of these tests are to obtain wall construction materials which have heat in sulating characteristics. For this reason.the following questions are fried to be answered; a) What is the suitable mixing ratios of perlite, tinkal ant clay by volume? b) What are the suitable firing conditions couch as firing temperature, temperature increase rate, calcination period. Pianlite is known as a suitable material for heat insulation. But tinkal is a now ma terial related with this purpose which is studied in this thesis. Tinkal has the properties of expanding at the temperatures of 350-550°C depend ing on brain size and separation from the clay inside the body. The main reason of using tinkal is to obtain porosity us a result of expansion and to obtain wall construction ele ment with suitable strength, porosity and heat transfer coefficient. Pearlite is only insulating element inside the body and it doesn't take any role in calcination process since it has already been expanded us a row material before brick making operation. First Serial Tests The samples which have 15 different mixing proportions of perarlite, tinkal and clay were prepared with 2,5-5 percent of water by weight ant presented with 350 kg/cm^ pressure. The samples were formed as cylinders with 6 cm diameter and 1,5 cm height and dried in a drying furnace up to 100-200°C for 3-4 hours. Heroes Muffle kiln is used for firing at 850°C wit 5,8°C/h temperature increase rate Twelve of these samples game important results and the second set of test were decided to be directed deeper around these mixing ratios.-158- Perlite (Expanded) 5 mm Clay 0.3 mm Tinkal (Ca.Na. Third Serial Tests Seven samples which gave suitable results were used for the third stage. Heat trans fer coefficient were measured in order to obtain optimum mixing ratio.
