| dc.description.abstract | SUMMARY In this research, the physical and chemical pro perties of clothing-split suedes were investigated and it was tried to obtain whether these properties was fit for the required properties of chrome tanned clothing leathers or not. For this purpose it had been worked on 17 calf- split leathers which were processed at leather tanneries, in Izmir. The physical and chemical properties were determined by the methods described in the related "Turkish Standarts" and "Official Methods of Analysis (1965)". It had been also investigated whether these properties were in harmony with the required properties of the chrome tanned leather or not. In this research; according to the investigation of the physical properties, it was found? thickness: 0.93 nun, tensile strength: 89«110kgf/cm, elangation: 51.353 # » split-tear strength: 6.7l8fegtV6&» sticth-tear strength: 63.102 k^/cn, water absorption after 2 hours: 196.536 #, water absorption after 24 hours: 223.026 f», shrinkage temperature: 108. 706 C and observable density: 0.47 g/cm3. In respect to the results, it has been seen that thickness, elongation, sticth-tear strength and shrinkage temperature were convenient for the chrome tanned clothing leathers but tensile strength, split- tear strength and water absorption values were not convenient for the required quality values indicatedfor the clothing leathers. In this research, according to the investigation of the chemical properties, the contents were found; moistures 9. 881 jS, chrome-oxide: 3.829 #, fat: 9.112 #, leather substance : 72.908 $, pH: 4.262, total ash: 7-258 io and the soluble substances in water O.986 #. In respect to the results ; it has been seen that, the contents of fat,.leather substance' and water soluble substances were convenient for the clothing leather but the contents of the chrome-oxide and total amount of ash were not convenient for the required quality values for the clothing leathers. As a result, according to the results of physical and chemical analysis it has been seen that; 1) The processed clothing-split suede leathers have a weak fibre structure, 2) The conservation processes were not well done, 3) During the tanning process it has been seen that the damage of the leather causing of chemical materials, 4) Some mineral substances were used more than required quantity. 5) The rising' of the cost by using' much more chrome and being caused damage for the enviroment by the waste water containing chrome. 6) De liming, splitting, shaving buffing and washing processes were not done sufficiently. | en_US |
