In this study, the distribution of Spatheion amphorae which constitute a major group of commercial amphorae that hold great importance in tracking Ancient Period trade and economy within the Eastern Mediterranean Basin has been examined. It is observed that this commercial amphora group, which is identified to have been used throughout the Late Antique Period and proven to be produced in modern day Tunisia, has been detected in many centers across the Eastern Mediterranean. All the centers in the Eastern Mediterranean where Spatheion amphorae were identified have been divided into regions and analyzed under separate headings to the extent permitted by the published literature. Based on the statistical data provided by these publications, the study aims to convey the existence and intensity of commercial relations between North Africa, where Spatheion amphorae were produced, and the regions/centers in the Eastern Mediterranean. While evaluating the distribution, which constitutes the main objective of the study, the underlying reasons, purposes, and challenges of these commercial relations have also been questioned. Indeed, regarding Spatheion amphorae, it is aimed to generate insights into various topics, including typology, the commodities transported within them, the variations in the vessel sizes, their duration of use, and the authority behind these commercial relations. Consequently, it has been observed that Spatheion amphorae have been identified in numerous centers across different regions in the Eastern Mediterranean, exhibiting a fairly wide distribution. The statistical results observed on behalf of the regions or specifically within the centers themselves indicate that Spatheion amphorae do not correspond to a dense group among the commercial amphorae recovered in the centers where they were detected. In summary, North Africa, which shipped its economically significant agricultural products to Eastern Mediterranean markets via Spatheion amphorae, engaged in commercial relations over a very vast area but at relatively low intensity levels.
