dc.description.abstractSoğuk Savaş’ın bitişiyle birlikte dünya yepyeni bir evreye girmiş, Soğuk Savaş döneminin paradigmaları ortaya çıkmakta olan uluslararası ortamı açıklayamaz duruma gelmiştir. Bundan dolayı, Batılı otoriteler yeni düzeni açıklamak için çeşitli teoriler ortaya atmışlardır. Bunlardan biri de Samuel Huntington’un “medeniyetler çatışması” tezidir. Huntington çalışmasında Soğuk Savaş’ın bitişi ile beraber çatışmaların temel unsurunun artık ideolojik olmadığını, kültürel ve ekonomik olduğunu ifade etmektedir. Bu bağlamda çatışmalar medeniyetler arasında gerçekleşecek ve din medeniyetler arasındaki çatışmaların temel kaynağını oluşturacaktır. Huntington; Batı, İslam, Hint, Konfüçyus, Latin, Japon, Ortodoks ve Afrika olmak üzere sekiz medeniyet saymaktadır. Batı’yı diğer medeniyetlerden ayırırken, Batı ile en çok çatışma yaşayacak medeniyet olarak İslam medeniyetini görmektedir. Çalışmasının büyük bölümünü de Batı ve İslam medeniyetleri arasındaki farklılıklara ayırmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın birinci bölümünde medeniyet kavramı ve medeniyetler çatışması tezi üzerinde durulmuş ve medeniyetler çatışması ile ilgili kavramlara yer verilmiştir. İkinci bölümde medeniyetler çatışması tezinin tarihsel arka planı hakkında bilgi verilmiştir. Üçüncü bölümde Hollywood Sineması’nın geçmişten günümüze gelişimi üzerinde durulmuştur. Son bölümde çalışma kapsamına alınan Not Without My Daughter, Rules of Engagement, Rendition, The Kingdom, Traitor, Body of Lies, Sex and the City 2, American Sniper adlı filmler Edward Said’in “Şarkiyatçılık” kitabındaki dört dogması bağlamında ele alınmış ve analiz edilmiştir. Buna göre, Huntington’un çalışmasında bahsedilen Batı ve İslam medeniyetleri arasındaki çatışma halinin ele alınan filmlerde var olduğu gözlemlenmiştir. Batı’nın karşıtı olarak kurulan İslam medeniyetinin ötekileştirildiği ve düşmanlaştırıldığı görülmüştür.en_US
dc.description.abstractWith the end of the Cold War, paradigms of the Cold War could not explain the emerging international environment. Therefore, Western authorities put forward various theories in order to elicit new order. One of those is Samuel Huntington’s “clash of civilization” thesis. In his work, Huntington stated that with the end of the Cold War, basic element of the clashes was no longer ideological, instead economic and cultural. In this context, clashes would occur between civilization and religion would be the main source of clashes between civilizations. Huntington counted eight civilization as Western, Islam, Indian, Confucius, Latin, Japan, Ortdodox and Afrcian. Putting West in another place, he has seen Islam as the most confronting civilization with the West. He also alotted the large part of his work to the diffrences between the Western and Islam civilization. In the first chapter of this study, concept of civilization and clash of civilization thesis were emphasized and given coverage to concepts related with clash of civilization thesis. In the second chapter, information about historical background of the clash of civilization thesis were given. In the third chapter, from past to present evolvement of Hollywood cinema was addressed. In the last chapter, the movies Not Without My Daughter, Rules of Engagement, Rendition, The Kingdom, Traitor, Body of Lies, Sex and the City 2, American Sniper were adressed and analysed according to four dogmas of Orientalism in Edward Said’s book “Orientalism”. Accordingly, existence of the state of conflict between Western and Islam civilization mentioned in Huntington’s work have been observed. It has been seen that civilization of Islam built as the adversary of the West have been deemed as other and created as enemy.en_US
