Özet

The aim of this study was to prepare and characterize a mitomycin C-loaded hazelnut oil microemulsion, and to examine its antimicrobial activity on bacteria and fungi. Microemulsions were prepared by titration of the oil-surfactant mixture with the water phase, and characterized for their physicochemical properties. In vitro release study was carried out by dialysis technique. In vitro antimicrobial activity on bacteria and fungi was examined by microdilution method and disc diffusion test. The hazelnut oil microemulsion has a droplet size of 27.6 nm which increased to 52.0 nm after mitomycin C loading. Mitomycin C-hazelnut oil microemulsion showed more effective bactericidal activity on P. aeruginosa, B. subtilis and S. aureus as compared with mitomycin C-solution. In conclusion, our novel microemulsion may be a promising carrier system for mitomycin C to increase its therapeutic effect on the infections originated from P. aeruginosa, S. aureus and B. subtilis.
