A group of amphorae referred to as the 'Syro-Phoenician Type' had a wide distribution across the Mediterranean, mainly during the 1st millennium BC. Within this distribution area, various amphorae belonging to this group have been studied, and typologies have been presented by several researchers. While these typologies sometimes focus on specific types within this group, sometimes they are limited to a specific geographical area. The focus of this dissertation was to determine the distribution of 'Syro- Phoenician Type Amphorae' in Anatolia in order to gather tangible data on Phoenician trade. The identification of this group, representing products of Phoenician culture as a significant part of the Eastern Mediterranean trade, along our coastlines is pivotal for understanding Anatolia's role within this trade network during the 1st millennium BC. Another key objective of the dissertation was to generate a new and applicable typology based on the amphorae found within this group. The 'Syro-Phoenician Type Amphorae' which were identified and documented through fieldwork conducted in museums and private collections along the western and southern coasts of Anatolia have allowed for establishment of a new typology since their quantity was four times greater than known and published amphorae. In this context, a new typology, consisting of ten different types, is presented to researchers in this thesis, along with a literature review conducted on Cyprus and the Levant region. This typological study also included an engineering and calculation work, specifically for two different 'Syro-Phoenician Type Amphorae' in order to determine the carrying capacity of these amphorae and the number that could be transported in the cargo of an ancient Phoenician ship, and the results are presented to researchers as a proposal for cargo loading. Keywords: Amphora, Syro-Phoenician, Phoenician, Cyprus, Levant Region.
