Özet
4. SUMMARY In this work, the catalytic oxidation of phenol in aqueous solutions at atmospheric: pressure over various catalysts is studied. The most selective catalyst for the destruction of phenol is determined and the effects of parameters such as flowrate of oxygen, temperature, initial phenol concentration to catalyst concentration ratio, stirring speed on the oxidation of phenol over the most selective catalyst are investigated. Kinetics of the reaction and the optimum operating conditions are also searched. Five different catalysts are tested in the selectivity analysis. The most selective catalyst is found to be one composed of 48 Y, CuO,47 K ZnO avid 11 '/. tf~Alg£>3. Optimum operating conditions are found as follows; Temperature of the reaction: 100°C, the flowrate of oxygen: 5 ml/s, initial phenol concentration to catalyst concentration rat i o : i. 0 < 4g. pheno 1 /4g. cata 1 yst > Kinetics of the reaction is studied over the most selective catalyst at 100°C. The initial rate and the rate in the steady-state activity regime are well represented by the following equations ; ' The rate constants kj_ and kg for the initial rate and steady-state activity regime, are presented by; kj = 1.3xlOi0 exp<~93/RT> and kg= S.OxlO"4 exp<-47/RT>, respectively. 50It- couldn't be possible to observe the intermediate products by gas chromatographic analysis over the range of conversions < 0-40%) and conditions studied. But the formation of COg which is the final product is determined by absorption in a NaOH solution. The preliminary experiments above atmospheric pressure show that, as expected " the increase in oxygen pressure increases the oxidation rate of phenol. 51
