This dissertation explores the selected American novels: Solar Storms (1997) by Linda Hogan, Prodigal Summer (2001) and Animal Dreams (1992) by Barbara Kingsolver, Parable of the Sower (2019) by Octavia Butler, and So Far From God (2005) by Ana Castillo, within the framework of the ecofeminist perspective. It seeks to highlight how these novels portray the connections between women and Nature as well as systems of domination and oppress ion. The theoretical framework consists of Val Plumwood’s, Karen J. Warren’s, Greta Gaard’s, Vandana Shiva’s, and Maria Mies’ thoughts on ecofeminism. By means of close reading as the principal method, the study is grounded in ecofeminist theory, specifica lly discussions on dualism, domination, control, relationality, interconnection, interdependency, care ethics, ecofeminist ethics, and material connection. The close reading and analysis of the novels pr o blematize dualisms existing within the Western world of thought and foreground the interconnections between women and Nature, which are not essentialist; to the contrary, they are relational, political, historic, ethical, and material. The dualistic systems and the harms they cause to women and Nature are e xplored through metaphors of wounds and scars, whereas the female characters’ determination to overcome these systems and find alternative ways of existing in harmony with all beings is explored through the metaphors of healing and restoring wholeness. Thi s study contributes to ecofeminist literary criticism through the analysis of selected contemporary novels by foregrounding patriarchy’s domination over women and Nature as well as the female characters’ non ant h ropocentric perspective s on Nature , and the healing potential of these perspectives.
