| dc.description.abstract | Representations of Trauma in Ethnic American Women Writers? (Etnik Amerikalı Kadın YazarlardaTravma Temsilleri) başlıklı yüksek lisans tezi üç bölümden oluşmaktadır.Tezin ilk bölümü; otobiyografi tanımı, tarihçesi ve kadınların neden otobiyografi yazmaya başladığı sorularınıele almaktadır. Tezin ikinci bölümü, eserin incelenmesi esnasında kullanılacak temel yöntemi içeren teoribölümünü kapsamaktadır. Bu bölümde, sömürgeci sonrası eleştiri (post-colonial criticism) kuramı tanımlanmış,Amerika'daki somürge sonrası eleştiri kuramı incelenmiş ve travma üzerine calışılmıştır. Tezin üçüncübölümünde, Maya Angelou'nun I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings adlı kitabı, Maxine Hong Kingston'ın TheWoman Warrior adlı eseri, ve Linda Hogan'ın The Woman Who Watches Over the World adlı kitabı, yukarıdabelirtilen eleştiri kuramı çerçevesinde ele alınmıştır. Aynı zamanda Afrikalı Amerikalı edebiyatindaki, göçmenedebiyatindaki, ve yerli Amerikalı edebiyatindaki kadının yerine değinilmiştir.Bu eserlerin incelenmesi sonucunda, üçüncü dünya ülkesi olmayan Amerika'daki etnik kökenli kadın yazarlarınkökenlerinden dolayı yaşadıkları kimlik arayışının sömürgeci sonrası eleştiriye dayanarak incelenebileceğigösterilmeye çalışılmıştır | en_US |
| dc.description.abstract | This M.A. thesis, entitled ?Representations of Trauma in Ethnic American Women Writers?, is comprisedof three chapters. The first chapter of this study provides an introduction to the definition of autobiography,history of autobiography, and the question of why women started writing autobiography. The second chapter ofthe thesis focuses on the theory, which employed in the analyses of the selected works. In this chapter, thedefinition of post-colonial theory, post-colonialism in America and trauma is studied. In the third chapter,African American autobiography and Maya Angelou?s I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings , Immigrantautobiography and Maxine Hong Kingston?s The Woman Warrior, and Native American autobiography andLinda Hogan?s The Woman Who Watches Over the World are studied in the light of the principal ideas of post-colonial theory.The thesis aims to prove that the three ethnic American women writers and their quest for identitiy, canbe examined through post-colonial theory, although America has never been accepted or `known? as a post-colonial nation. | en_US |
