Özet
Bu çalışmanın temel amacı beden kavramı ile sosyoloji arasındaki uzun bir geçmişe dayalı ilişkiyi göstermek ve analiz etmeye çalışmaktır. Beden/ Akıl dikotomisini kabul edip, insanı toplumsal bir varlık olarak tanımlayarak akıl üzerine vurgulama yapan Klasik Sosyolojide 'beden', uzun bir zaman dilimi boyunca 'görünmez' bir niteliğe sahip olmuştur. Bedeni tamamen ihmal etmeyen Klasik Sosyolojide beden 'var yok' bir konumdadır. Fakat ileri, endüstriyel toplumlarda toplumsal, kültürel, ekonomik ve bilimsel/teknolojik değişimlerin bir sonucu olarak çağdaş kültürde insan bedeni ve beden kavramı önemli bir noktaya yerleşmiştir. Beden bu büyük çaplı değişimlerin sonucunda Sosyolojide daha bir 'görünür' dür artık.
The main purpose of this paper is to show and analyze the relationship between body concept and sociology. By accepting a mind/body dichotomy and focusing on the mind as defines humans as social being, body has been 'invisible' in classical sociology. Instead of being neglected completely, the body concept has been something of an 'absent presence' in classical sociology. Moreover the body has become important in contemporary culture as a consenquences of major social, culturel, economic and scientific/technological changes in the advanced industrial societies. The human body and body concept therefore has become a focus of sociology and 'visible' as a consequence of these macro changes.
