Aim: In this study, it was aimed to examine the effect of therapeutic play applied with a toy nebulizer and toy mask before inhaler treatment on children's fear and anxiety. Method: The population of the randomized controlled experimental study was composed of children aged 3-8 years who applied to the pediatric emergency department due to respiratory system disease between February 2021-March 2022. 84 children who met the inclusion criteria and volunteered to participate in the study were included in the sample. "Child Information Form, Child Follow-up Form, Child Fear Scale, Child Anxiety Scale-Status and Therapeutic Play Practice Guide were used to collect data. Results: According to in-group comparisons, after treatment, fear and anxiety decreased in the Therapeutic Play Group and increased in the Routine Treatment Group (p<0.001). There was a significant difference between the groups in terms of children's fear and anxiety levels (p<0.05). Previous nebulization treatment, previous visit to the emergency department, and previous hospitalization did not affect the pre-treatment and post-treatment fear and anxiety scores (p>0.05). There was a significant difference between the groups in terms of accepting the mask and compliance with the treatment during treatment (p<0.001). Conclusion: As a result of the analyzes, it was found that therapeutic play applied with a toy nebulizer and toy mask is an effective method in reducing hospital fear and anxiety in children. Keywords; Therapeutic Play, Toy Nebulizer, Anxiety, Fear, Child, Nurse.
