Özet
1 1. Seedling emergence time and rate was higher in Rio Grande when treated with KN03, while it was PEG which increased those in VF-6203 in the field. 12. Positive effects of seed treatments became clear when seeds were direct seeded immediately after treatment to the field, but they remained also constant when stored for 3 months, and final emergence percentage in treated ones was 10-15% higher as compared to that of the untreated control. 13. It was concluded that the conventional direct seeding of 120g seed per da could be reduced to 90g/da which is a reduction of 25% in seed amount by this method. Especially low soil temperature, as in the first year of the experiment, made the positive effects of treatments become clear. 14. In direct seeding, treatments resulted in improvement of a number of characters in seedlings and developed plants such as 2-3 cm increased seedling hight, 0.5-1 more leaf, 0.22-0.33 mm thicker seedlings, 0.08-0.23 % more dry matter in the stem and 0.10-0.38 % more dry matter in the roots. 15. The positive effects of treatments lasted till the end of the harvesting period where 1-2 more leaves, 2 more flower cluster and 2-3 more green fruits per plant was counted for treated ones as compared with control. 16. Early yield was also affected with the treatments in both varieties which was 6-20 % higher in treated ones than the control. 17. The treatments were not found to be effective in total yield and fruit quality characteristics like brix, pH, colour etc.. 214time. While the mean emergence time (E50) in control seeds was 15-16 days, it was 12-13 days in treated seeds, but this has not affected final emergence percentage which was 80-90% in both treated and untreated seeds. 4. Even KN03 and distilled water treatments had improved seedling emergence time and rate better than PEG did difference was not significant with regard to statistical analysis. 5. The positive effects of treatments became clear when seeds were sown immediately after treatment to the seed nursery, whereas, treated seeds that were subsequently stored for 1 -3 months the positive effect was reduced about 2-10%. Even this is true, the emergence time and rate of the stored seeds, however, was higher as that of the controls. This was especially observed for PEG and KN03. 6. When stress conditions were present or seeds with low vigour were used, seed treatment resulted in reduction of seed amount which was 60g per seed bed (23x1.20 m) in our seed nursery. In this way it was possible to produce high quality seedlings without thinning. 7. Depending on varieties and years, seedling hight was increased 2-3 cm and seedling thickness was increased 0.20-0.30 mm with treatments but leaf number remain unaffected in the experiments in the seed nursery. Treat ments increased also dry matter in stem and roots of the variety VF-6203 in a percentage of 0.03-0.10% and 0.17-0.31% respectively, but in the variety Rio Grande, they did not. 8. Direct seeding of treated seeds increased emergence rate and final emergence percentage in the field experiment. It is worth mentioning again that the soil temperature was 15°C in 5 cm depth for 12-13 days during this time. As compared to the untreated control, which was also direct seeded, treatments resulted in earlier and higher seedling emergence. 9. Both varieties reached mean emergence time (E50) in 12-14 days, while control reached it in 15-18 days. 10. The positive effects of treatments lasted until the and of seedling emergence and as a result, final emergence percentage was increased to 80-85 % in the field, while it remained 60-65 % in the control. 2131 1.
