Objective: In this study, it was conducted to determine the effects of monochromatic lighting on performance, carcass characteristics and some blood parameters of broilers. Material and Methods: A total of 504 one day old chicks (Ross-308) were randomly divided into 3 treatment groups [compact fluorescent (CF)-control, blue led (BL)-470 nm and green led (GL)-570 nm] in 4 replicates each (42 chicks). The animals were exposed to a lighting schedule of 23 h of light and 1 h of dark throughout the experiment. The animals in all groups were housed in light-proof (opaque) pens and fed on same starter (from 0 to 21 days) and finisher (from 22 to 45 days) diets. Feed and water were offered for ad-libitum consumption. Results: Body weight of BL at 21 days significantly decreased compared to CF and GL groups. At the end of the study, GL group reached the highest body weight. Monochromatic blue lighting adversely affected feed conversion ratio from 0 to 21 days. No significant differences were determined in blood parameters except cholesterol level and slaughter characteristics between treatment groups. On 40 days, blood cholesterol level increased in BL group. Conclusion: As a result, it might be suggested GL treatment to improve performance in broiler production.
