The approach of the patients to the rigid rectosigmoidoscopy [RIJID REKTOSIGMOIDOSKOPIYE HASTALARIN YAKLASIM VE DEGERLENDIRMESI]
    (1996) Tuzomay N.; Isler M.; Artut S.; Akarca U.S.; Ozutemiz A.O.; Aydin A.; Cavusoglu H.
Patients' informations, perceptions and reflections about rigid rectosigmoidoscopy were investigated before and after rigid rectosigmoidoscopy. 307 patients (15-84), of these patients (155 women, 152 men) were included in the study. 248 were of urban (81%) and 59 were from of rural (19%) origin. 48% of the patients graduated from high school or higher degree. Before the procedure, 36% stated that they had had enough information about the examination, 59% knew that we would perform the procedure through anus. 45% of the patients requested a pre-procedure explanation from a doctor, 16% from a nurse and for 39% of the patients it did not matter. 32% of the men and 60% of the women predicted the procedure distressing (p<0.001). Patients from rural area the procedure as more distressing when compared with the urban patients (80% vs 66% (p<0.05)). During the procedure, 36 patients (12%) stated that they would rather not have had this examination, 18 patients (6%) said that they would have never let it be done. This study indicates: (i) that in Turkey a significant number of patients undergoing rectosigmoidoscopy have no information about the procedure; (ii) that most patients prefer a medical doctor rather than a nurse to give procedure related information and (iii) that women.

Effect of omeprazole on plasma zinc levels after oral zinc administration
    (2002) Ozutemiz A.O.; Aydin H.H.; Isler M.; Celik H.A.K.; Batur Y.
Background: The intestines are the major site of zinc absorption and excretion. Reduced gastric acid secretion and elevated gastric pH is an important factor affecting intestinal mineral absorption. Methods: Gastric pH and volume, and basal and maximal acid outputs were measured in 14 healthy volunteers. Plasma zinc levels were then measured at baseline and 1, 2, 3 and 4 hours after oral administration of 300 mg zinc sulfate. The experiment was repeated after omeprazole administration (60 mg/day orally) for 7 days. Results: Omeprazole administration significantly increased fasting gastric pH (5.5 versus 2.4; p<0.001). Mean basal gastric acid output (1.6 vs 8.0 mEq/h; p<0.001) and maximal acid output (20.6 vs 106.6 mEq/h; p<0.001) decreased after omeprazole administration. Zinc absorption decreased after omeprazole administration (141 [34] mg/dL/h) compared with pre-omeprazole values (245 [35]; p<0.01). Conclusion: Suppression of gastric acid secretion by omeprazole reduces intestinal absorption of zinc.

Evaluating the thermal comfort properties of Rize's traditional hemp fabric (Feretiko) using a thermal manikin
    (Elsevier Ltd, 2019) Tama D.; Isler M.; Abreu M.J.
In the present research, the thermal properties of the traditional fabric of the Rize city (Turkey) were investigated. A Feretiko, which is a fabric produced from hemp fibers at handlooms, were chosen and the thermal properties were evaluated via thermal manikin as well as the Alambeta tester and Air permeability tester. The thermal manikin tests were performed at 23 °C ± 1 constant ambient temperature and 75 ± 5% relative humidity regarding to the past annual average temperature and relative humidity data of Rize city were considered. The thermal resistance of Feretiko was measured 0.011 m2K/W by Alambeta tester and the total clothing insulation of the shirt manufactured from Feretiko was measured as 0.032 m2K/W by thermal manikin. Moreover, in ASHRAE Standard 55-2013, the clothing insulation of a long-sleeve shirt ensemble stated as 0.25 clo. The clothing insulation of the shirt manufactured from Feretiko was 0.20 clo, which is close to the value stated in the standard. © 2019 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Hepatitis viruses in the etiology of hepatocellular carcinoma [HEPATOSELLULER KANSER ETYOLOJISINDE HEPATIT VIRUSLARI]
    (1996) Yonetci N.; Akarca U.S.; Ersoz G.; Isler M.; Batur Y.
The etiologic factors were investigated in 31 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma admitted to our clinic from 1991 to 1994. Twenty-seven cases were male, 4 were female. HCC patients were older (61.1 ± 1.2) compared with the patients with cirrhosis (51.7 ± 0.6) without evidence for HCC. HBsAg was positive in 21 (68%), HBV seropositivity was detected in 28 (90%). Anti HCV prevalence was 19%. HBeAg was negative in all patients. Anti HCV and HBsAg coexistence was never detected. Of 6 alcoholic patients, each had at least one virological marker. These results indicated that etiologic factors in hepatocellular carcinoma in our region. appeared to be similar with the countries in where HBV infection is endemic.
