Öğe About the effect of reserpine on the ultrastructural and histochemical (RNA, DNA) changes induced by radiation in the neurons and the glia cells(1972) Hariri N.I.; Tuncer S.O.I.; Falakali S.; Aksu M.Y.Radiation caused intracytoplasmic vacuoles in the neurons, in the endoplasmic reticulum widening in the form of cisterns, 'dense bodies', and degeneration of the mitochondria. With the acridine orange method, RNA gave an orange red and DNA a yellow green fluorescence to the neurons and glia. Radiation both in small and high doses caused in the neurons a decrease of fluorescence of the RNA in the cytoplasm and nucleolus and of the DNA in the nuclei. In rabbits submitted to a small dose of radiation a homogenized green fluorescence was observed in the DNA in the 3 mth following the radiation: in animals to which reserpine was administered before radiation, the ultrastructural alterations were minimal and the RNA and the DNA showed no alteration in their fluorescence. The binding of 3H-Naloxone to opiate receptors was characterized in the frontal cortex of human post-mortem brain samples and age related changes in opiate receptors were investigated. 2. Our study revealed the presence of two binding sites with different affinities for naloxone. 3. With increasing age, the opiate receptors tend to show greater affinity for the agonistic conformation; this may imply a decline in endogenous opioid peptides with age. © 1989.
