General characteristics of the turkish marine ichthyofauna
    (1999) Bilecenoğlu M.; Taşkavak E.
The general characteristics of the Turkish marine ichthyofauna are presented with respect to local conditions of abundance, habitat, depth range, feeding habits, size, geographic distribution and commercial importance. A statistical analysis was carried out for the 400 fish species belonging to 119 families. The Turkish marine ichthyofauna is characterized by a large proportion of common, medium sized species of Atlanto-Mediterranean origin inhabiting benthic soft substrates between 0–250 m in depth, feeding mainly on invertebrates. © 1999 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.

Observations on the burrowing behaviour of the dwarf blaasop, torquigener flavimaculosus (osteichthyes: Tetraodontidae) along the coast of fethiye, turkey
    (2005) Bilecenoğlu M.
A previously unreported burrowing behaviour of the Red Sea migrant fish Torquigener flavimaculosus was observed for the first time in the Mediterranean Sea (Fethiye Bay, Turkey). The burrowing response, preceded by an escape swimming, is explained as an anti-predator adaptation by the species. It left only the eyes and a portion of the back exposed. © 2005 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.

Recent changes in the fish fauna of lake bafa, aegean region of turkey
    (1999) Sarı H.M.; Balık S.; Bilecenoğlu M.; Türe G.
The current status of fishes found in Lake Bafa in the Aegean region of Turkey is described. The conspicuous augmentation of salinity in the last decade has resulted in the extinction of stenohaline freshwater species (Acanthobrama mirabilis, Chondrostoma nasus, Barbus pectoralis, Proterorhinus marmoratus and Silurus glanis) and has promoted the establishment of euryhaline fishes. Two species of marine origin, Gobius niger and Syngnathus abaster, are new additions to the ichthyofauna of Lake Bafa. © 1999 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
