Öğe Children's Narrative Development and Usage of Narratives in the Evaluation of Language(Ankara Univ, Fac Educational Sciences, 2015) Akmese, Pelin PistavIt is a narrative or a story that is one of the most common verbal language expressions, which children use very often to express themselves. Children start to acquire their ability to tell a story at early ages. A narrative analysis provides us with the information about how it combines the information of linguistic areas. A narrative shows clearly the developmental progress and can be used as a means of the evaluation of verbal linguistic development. The linguistic development in the future can be predicted with the evaluation of the narrative development because the narratives have more complex linguistic structures than the daily language. In addition, early narrative skills are the predictors of the academic skills in the future. That's why, the narrative should be one of the intervention targets in school-age children who have a difficulty in learning the languageÖğe Comparison Of The In-Service Training Requirements And The Level Of Satisfaction Of Care Personnel In Children's Homes(Elsevier Science Bv, 2015) Akmese, Pelin Pistav; Kayhan, Nilay; Alevriadou, AAdults assume an important role in the care and education of children. Although the family is considered as the most suitable environment for raising children, various social and economic factors may require or force children to live apart from their families. In this context; this study aimed to determine the in-service training requirements with respect to children' nutrition, food safety, children's diseases and disease prevention of the care personnel assigned at Children's Homes affiliated with the Provincial Directorates of the Ministry of Family and Social Policies, and to compare these requirements with their post-training level of satisfaction. The study was performed with the participation of 43 care personnel working for the Provincial Directorate of Social Services in the Manisa Province of Turkey. The obtained data were then evaluated using content analysis. Twenty six (60.5%) of the care personnel were between the ages of 25-30, while 38 (88.4%) were secondary school graduates in the area of child development. All of the participants expressed that the program was able to meet their training requirements. During the study, it was determined that the care personnel had various training requirements, and that detailed knowledge regarding these needs was very important for the effective planning of the content and duration of their in-service training. (C) 2015 Published by Elsevier Ltd.Öğe An evaluation of the relationship between subjective tinnitus perception and COVID-19-related psychological factors(2024) Kirazli, Gulce; Uysal, Gokce Saygi; Akmese, Pelin Pistav; Inceoglu, Feyza; Ozgursoy, Selmin Karatayli; Ogut, Mehmet FatihAim: This study aimed to examine the relationship of tinnitus loudness, annoyance and handicap in tinnitus patients with the level of coronavirus-related anxiety, psychological distress, and fear. It was also aimed to evaluate the effects of insomnia severity and social and emotional loneliness perception on tinnitus in the pandemic period. Materials and Methods: A total of 112 patients over the age of 18 who were followed up in two centers with the diagnosis of chronic subjective tinnitus were included in the study. During the pandemic, the data were collected using the following tools via Google Forms: Demographic Information Form, Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) for tinnitus loudness and annoyance, the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI), Coronavirus Anxiety Scale (CAS), Fear of COVID Scale (FCVS-T), COVID-19 related Psychological Distress Scale (CORPD), Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), and Social and Emotional Loneliness Scale (SELSA-S). Results: A weak positive correlation was found between CAS score and VAS for tinnitus loudness and annoyance, FCVS-T, ISI, Selsa-S total scores; between FCVS-T score and VAS for annoyance, CORPD, ISI scores; and, between CORPD and THI, ISI scores (p<0.05). There was a significant positive correlation between VAS and Selsa-S \"social loneliness\" sub-dimension scale, THI scores (p<0.05). Conclusion: Psychological support should not be neglected in the management of tinnitus patients in the pandemic period, and tinnitus patients should be followed closely, since the increase in psychological factors and the perceived loneliness level and the severity of insomnia in the pandemic cause a worsening in the perception of tinnitus.Öğe An evaluation of the test-retest reliability of the functional head impulse test in healthy young adults(Springer, 2023) Kirazli, Gulce; Emekci, Tugba; Inceoglu, Feyza; Akmese, Pelin Pistav; Celebisoy, NeseAimTo determine the test and retest reliability of the functional head impulse test (fHIT) in healthy young adults.Materials and methodsThirty-three healthy participants (17 women, 16 men) aged 18-30 years were included in the study. Each participant underwent the fHIT twice, 1 week apart, by the same experienced clinician. Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) were used to determine test-retest reliability.ResultsThere was no statistically significant difference between the results of total percentage of correct answer (CA%) of the fHIT obtained in session 1 and session 2 measurements in the lateral, anterior, and posterior semicircular canals (SCCs) (p > 0.05). ICC values for test-retest reliability were found to range from 0.619 to 0.665 for the three semicircular canals (SCCs).ConclusionThe test-retest reliability of the fHIT device was moderate. Attention, cognition, and fatigue may be the factors reducing reliability. In the diagnosis, follow-up, and rehabilitation processes of vestibular diseases in clinics, changes in the fHIT CA% can be used to assess vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR) functionality.Öğe Examination of Sign Language Education According to the Opinions of Members from a Basic Sign Language Certification Program(Edam, 2016) Akmese, Pelin PistavBeing hearing impaired limits one's ability to communicate in that it affects all areas of development, particularly speech. One of the methods the hearing impaired use to communicate is sign language. This study, a descriptive study, intends to examine the opinions of individuals who had enrolled in a sign language certification program by using semi-structured interviews, a qualitative research technique. For this purpose, a semi-structured interview form was prepared and an expert's opinion was received; 190 participants who had completed or were continuing their sign language education were contacted. In the process of data collection, 30% of participants were contacted and interviewed face-to-face. Participants' opinions were divided into five main themes: their reason for joining sign language education, their determination of the place of sign language education in community life, the effect of sign language education in learning environments, examining sign language education programs regarding quality, and examining sign language education in regard to the qualifications of personnel and participants. The findings of this study are thought to be able to contribute to regulations regarding sign language education.Öğe Investigation of early literacy skills of preschool children with hearing loss(Bmc, 2024) Akmese, Pelin Pistav; Kucuk, Destina Sezgin; Kirazli, GulceBackgroundEarly literacy development is critical for children with hearing loss to develop literacy skills in the years to come. The aim of this study is to compare the early literacy skills of 60-72 months' children with hearing loss to the results of children with normal hearing.MethodsA total of 40 children (20 children with hearing aid (HA) and 20 children with normal hearing (NH) were evaluated in the study. Receptive and expressive language was assessed by Test of Early Language Development (TELD-3) and Early Literacy Test (EROT) was applied to assess the early literacy skills of all children in the study.ResultsThe receptive and expressive language results of the hearing-impaired group were significantly lower than those of normal hearing. Moreover, in EROT when a general analysis is made with main test titles such as, the vocabulary knowledge, letter knowledge, the listening comprehension, results showed that there was a significant difference between the HA and NH groups.ConclusionsThis study highlights the importance of supporting early literacy skills, which are prerequisite skills for reading and writing skills, in children who receive both mainstreaming education and special education in the risk group and/or continue their education in kindergarten.Öğe An Investigation of the Self-Efficacy Levels of the Special Education Teachers Regarding Game Teaching(Ankara Univ, Fac Educational Sciences, 2017) Akmese, Pelin Pistav; Kayhan, NilayThe game has been accepted as an effective teaching method which can be used in leaming period of the children in early childhood period.
