Synthesis and antimicrobial screening of some potentially active 1-substitutedaryl-6,7-dimethoxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline derivatives

Upon observation of promising antimicrobial activity for some benzylideneamine derivatives, a number of 1-substitutedphenyl-6,7-dimethoxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolines have been synthesized as potential antibacterial and antifungal agents. The chemical structures of the compounds were elucidated by spectroscopic (UV, IR, 1H and 13C NMR, MS) analyses. The activity of the compounds were tested against two Gram(+) and two Gram(-) bacteria and two yeast-like fungi.
