Folk narratives are folklore products that reflect imaginary world of a society whom they belong to. Changes in social life in a society that creates folk narratives and transfers them from past to future generations, also cause changes in the structure and content of narratives. Even though folk narratives change in accordance with the social conditions, some elements in the narratives stay stable despite changes in social life. These constant skeleton structures are the elements that exist in the human mind and have functional roles in responding to certain human needs. One of these skeleton structures is "supernatural guide being" that appears in most of the folk narratives. It is known that this being which could be named as "resistant cultural element" or "archetype", doesn't manifest physically; it is just determined as a principle, has unchangeable meaning and is materialized only through dreams or folklore products. In this article, folk narratives, especially Turkish epics, formed in Turkish society before and after accepting Islam were evaluated in point of "supernatural guide being". The reasons for changes in "supernatural guide" that appears as "gray wolf" in narratives formed before and as "Hizir" in narratives formed after acceptance of Islam in Turkish society, were questioned. In addition to this, common elements used in portraying "supernatural guide being" that appears in almost every Turkish epic and guides the hero of epic, were determined using the examples of "gray wolf guide" and "Hizir guide".en_US
