Systemic inflammatory response that occurs in the fetus is called fetal inflammatory response syndrome. It is characterized by the presence of fetal vasculitis and increased proinflamatory cytokines in the amniotic fluid or in fetal blood. There is an intrauterine infection and fetus gives reaction to it. It affects maternal decidua, myometrium, amniotic and chorionic membranes, amniotic fluid, umblical cord and placenta. Recent studies claims that these intraamniotic cytokines originate from the fetus. The effect of fetal inflammatory response on probable consequences are more important. In conclusion it is claimed that perinatal cytokine response may play role in the etiology of most commonly seen complications in premature infants, like and gives rise to cerebral damage. Furthermore; impaired biophysical profile, depression at labour, asphyxia are the clinical findings of this syndrome.en_US
