In this study, induction characteristics of propofol (4 mg/kg) were compared with thiopentone (5 mg/kg) in 30 children aged between 5-12 years. Unvoluntary movements were observed in 2 children (% 13) who received propofol in contrast to 1 child (6 %) with thiopentone, although those movements were transient and minor. In the propofol group, the mean duration of apnea was longer than the thiopentone group, which was statistically significant (p<0.05). The arterial blood pressure decreases were more profound in propofol group in comparison with thiopentone group. In conclusion, propofol appears to be a promising alternative to thiopentone in children.en_US
