Diabetes mellitus is a complex disease with significant consequences on health, societies, and the economy alike. The tandem presence of some diseases with diabetes highly underlines the urgency for efficient solutions. Many compounds are being used to control/balance glucose and insulin levels. Natural product-based proteins and peptides have been a part of the traditional medication. They possess both nutritional activities and health benefits. In addition to their economic and easy production, their advantage relies on their accessibility, biocompatibility, and diminutive adverse effects. This chapter will provide a comprehensive understanding of diabetes (including its complications) and the importance of bioactive peptides in antidiabetic therapy. Hence, this chapter will present the latest advances in multifunctional bioactive peptide discovery. We will also demonstrate the enormous unexploited potential of bioactive peptides that could be valuable in designing future diabetes therapeutics. © 2022 Elsevier B.V.en_US
