| dc.description.abstract | Studies that analyze the relations between the user and places where the user interacts, are very useful to develop more sustainable public spaces. The starting point of this study is to analyze an important node of Izmir on the basis of urban identity. The physical status of the research area is studied and the relationship between the physical environment and user behaviour is examined. The study aims to draw attention to an important node area that is one of the focus points of urban identity and public life, which is indispensable for healthy societies. The study was conducted as a term project within the scope Environmental Psychology course and a total of 45 students participated in the study. The study consists of 2 main stages. The "observation form" consists of 2 main stages. In the first stage, the research area was evaluated according to its physical status (first impressions, factors affecting visual quality, features that make the study area different). In the second part, the research area was evaluated with its social status (user information, the types of social interaction they exhibit, environment-behaviour relationship, user behaviour, activity types) and sensorial status (sensations in the perception process). As a result of the study, some suggestions were made considering the findings and in addition, the relationship between space and its users has been discussed and some suggestions have been made to improve the traditional structure of the study area as well as its visual quality in order to contribute to the socialization of the users. © 2020 Parlar Scientific Publications.
