Özet

The purpose of the study was to analyze the technical efficiency of sheep farming using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) in Isparta province in Turkey. The data used were collected from 80 farmers using the stratified sampling method by means of a questionnaire. The technical efficiency of the sheep farming varied between 0.63 and 1.00. The mean efficiency of farms was calculated to be 0.41 and 0.48 for constant and variable returns to scale assumptions, respectively. The greatest slacks were defined as veterinary-drug costs and labour use. The most significant factors affecting efficiency of sheep farming were education, family and hired labour, A U, milk yield per sheep, age at separation (years) and number of lambs per sheep born (%).
