Özet
Aim: The study was methodically carried out to examine validity and reliability of Turkish form of "Caregiver Burden Inventory" Methods: Sampling group of the study included 230 primary caregiver of dementia patients. Data was collected using Caregiver Burden Inventory which has 24 items was developed by Novak and Guest in 1989. Forward and backward translation procedure and pretest was made to establish translation equivalency and linguistic adaptation. In order to estimate instrument stability between different occasions test-retest reliability was performed. To determine the internal consistency for the inventory, Coefficient Alpha was obtained. The scale was examined by 10 experts to verify it's contend validity. Construct validity was established by hypothesis testing and factor analysis. Results: Expert opinions were consulted regarding the scope validity of the CBI. The CBI showed very high internal consistency (Cronbah alpha value 0.94). Confirmatory factor analyses demostrated that model was well fit. There was a strong and linear correlations between test-retest measures (r=0.98). In the item analysis it has seen that the item-total correlation coefficients of scale ranged from 0.52- to 0.84 and none of the items of scale was deleted. All of the factors of the inventory positively correlated with Beck Depression Inventory scores (r ranged from 0.47-0.71) Conclusion: As a result it has found that "Caregiver Burden Inventory" was a sufficiently valid and reliable instrument in Turkey.
