Özet

The Ottoman Empire, which was in the losing bloc of the First World War, withdrew from the war with the Armistice of Mudros signed on 30 October 1918. Sultan Vahdettin, who wanted the peace negotiations to be carried out only under his own control, dissolved the Assembly on 21 December 1918, using the authority granted to him by the Constitution. According to the seventh article of the Constitution, the dissolved parliament had to convene again within four months. However, the government decided that the elections could only be held after the signing of the peace treaty, as the Ottoman lands were under occupation and the state of mobilization continued, and this caused a struggle between the supporters of the parliament and the Sultan and the government. The first political goal of the Anatolian movement, which started after the occupations in various parts of Anatolia, was to reconvene the assembly. As a result of this movement carried out under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Pasha, the government of Damat Ferit Pasha fell from power and the government of Ali Riza Pasha, which was established in its place, made an election decision on October 7, 1919. One of the places where the elections were held was Tekirdag, which is a sanjak of the Edirne province. As a result of the elections held in October and November 1919, Suleyman Faik (Ozkan) Bey and Huseyin Rahmi (Ertin) Bey were elected as Tekirdag deputies and joined the Parliament. In this study, the 1919 elections in Tekirdag and the activities of the elected deputies in the Parliament will be examined through the Directorate of State Archives Ottoman Archives, Ministry of National Defence Military History Archive, the periodicals of the period and the existing literature.
