dc.description.abstract | The term restoration, a French word, is generally used to mean “repair and renovation in accordance with the original”. In this study; It describes the repair stages of a romantic guitar produced in France, which is about 130 years old, in accordance with the principles of restoration. The instrument had many structural problems prior to repair. The instrument, with its handle and sound box separated, had its keyboard broken. In addition, cracks formed on the top and back boards of the acoustic sound box, while some of the harmonic bars were separated from the adhesion surfaces. A large portion of the psoriasis decorations around the sound hole had also fallen off. When examining the structural properties and historical history of this instrument, which cannot be played, it became clear that it was a good musical instrument that reflected its period and therefore decided to be restored. To this end, the plan for the restoration has been drawn up and the necessary repairs have been carried out step by step. The study carried out took care to preserve the original structure of the instrument and where possible repairs were made with appropriate wood and materials. As a result, the restoration was completed and this romantic guitar was re-functional and made available to performers. All stages of the meticulously conducted work have been photographed and documented. © 2022, Tolga Karaca. All rights reserved. | en_US |
