Oil crops have always been an important segment in the world's agriculture. Vegetable oils have been used in human and animal nutrition and to a lesser extent for nonedible applications. Recently, however, due to high energy prices and a greater awareness of the environmental consequences of fossil fuels, oil crops can be refined to transport biofuels such as biodiesel esters. Biodiesel has an increasing importance in the world energy matrix, and the demand of biodiesel is expected to increase significantly in the near future. In this article, the potential of using oil crops for biofuel production based on conversion processes was examined. © 2017 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.en_US
