dc.description.abstractThe village of Sirince, dating back to the 5th century BC, is an old Greek settlement with unique examples of 19th century Anatolian architecture which reflects the characteristic pattern of the region extending from Northern Greece to Anatolia in Turkey. In the Sirince urban conservation area, there are nearly 200 protected houses, which are congruent with the structure of the land and integrated with the environment. Its stone-paved regular streets and authentic structure give priority to pedestrians, making it a popular place for tourism. This study will evaluate Sirince and its physical pattern, beginning with the main square of the village (A1), which has been designated as the central point, and the six spaces and streets that are located within a 2-min walking distance (160 m radius) of the central point; they will be evaluated, in particular, by considering the integrity of the local buildings. Evaluation forms entitled 'Accessibility', 'Settlement system', 'Identity and image', 'Evaluation of open spaces' and 'Evaluation of streets - buildings' were prepared to examine the relationship among the buildings, streets, and space, and were applied to the study area. According to the results obtained from these forms, it was found that the space quality of Sirince is good; however, the street pattern is not adequately protected, and attention needs to be given to the integrity of the traditional pattern.en_US
