Özet
In this study, the restoration process of an oud made by Kapudağlı İlya, numbered 3886, dated 1925, is discussed. Kapudağlı İlya, who lived between 1870 and 1930, was one of the important oud producers of our country. He made ouds with high artistic direction, sound quality and visual value. Kapudağlı İlya (Kanakis) was born in 1870 on the Kapıdağ peninsula the Bandırma district of Balıkesir province. It is mentioned as Kapudağ in old records and on the labels of the instrument. He was a Turkish citizen of Greek origin. He started his career by making guitars and mandolins. When he was 25, he moved his workshop to Istanbul. İlya opened a shop in the Grand Bazaar, where he observed the musical understanding and needs of the period and began to produce accordingly. During this period, he started to produce the most preferred oud and was engaged in the production of oud and lute for many years. Instrument restoration is still a very new issue in our country. Although the repair and restoration of old instruments has been done for a long time, the application of such works at the academic level and their subsequent publication are still very new. In the study, the Ilya oud was first examined in detail, its current situation, material, period, workmanship and construction techniques were discussed, and then the parts that required intervention were determined. Materials and work-process sequence were determined for the repair process of the instrument. This oud, which is approximately 100 years old, was later made playable after going through a restoration process in accordance with the international restoration principles of historical and cultural assets. © 2024, Tolga Karaca.
