Öğe Determining the Cardiovascular Disease Risk Factor Knowledge and Related Factors Among Adults With Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus(Sage Publications Inc, 2022) Karaman, Emine; Kalkim, Asli; Yurekli, Banu Pinar SarerIn this study was to determine knowledge of cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors and to explore related factors among adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) who have not been diagnosed with CVD. This descriptive study was conducted with 175 adults. Data were collected individual identification form and Cardiovascular Disease Risk Factors Knowledge Level (CARRF-KL) scale. A negative correlation was found between age and CARRF-KL score. A significant difference was found between educational status and CARRF-KL score. The individuals described their health status as good, managed their condition with diet and exercise, received information from nurses, adults with DM in their family and those with no DM complications had significantly higher scores in CARRF-KL. The knowledge of an individual with DM about CVD risk factors should be assessed, CVD risks should be identified at an early stage, and individuals at risk should be subjected to screening.Öğe Effect of a weight loss intervention on iron parameters in overweight and obese Turkish women(Mattioli 1885, 2019) Kaner, Gulsah; Pekcan, Ayla Gulden; Yurekli, Banu Pinar SarerBackground/aims: To examine changes in body weight and iron parameters of overweight and obese premenopausal women who participated in a weight loss intervention. Methods: A total of 147 overweight or obese women, aged 20-49 years, were included in this study. Subjects were divided into two groups at the baseline of study. All women underwent a 3 month intervention, a nutritional weight loss program. The first group included women with low hemoglobin levels, as the second group consisted of women with normal hemoglobin levels. Biochemical, and anthropometric parameters were measured, and dietary intake was recorded at the baseline and end of the study. Results: After the intervention, first group had 10.1% weight loss, whereas the second group had 10.7%. A statistically significant relationship between body weight loss and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels was determined. Significant decrease was observed on the anthropometric variables, dietary energy, total fat, saturated fatty acids, and carbohydrate intake. Dietary intakes of vitamin C, fiber, iron, and calcium levels increased. Conclusion: Weight loss improved the blood iron parameters and anthropometric measurements possibly due to its possitive effect on inflammation.Öğe Olfactory Sulcus Hypoplasia Images of a Case With Kallmann Syndrome(Elmer Press Inc, 2015) Yurekli, Banu Pinar Sarer; Kutbay, Nilufer Ozdemir; Kitis, Omer; Özkınay, Ferda; Saygili, FusunKallmann syndrome is a form of hypogonadotropic hypogonadism accompanied by anosmia or hyposmia. MR images of midline defects in Kallmann syndrome were rarely seen in the literature. These tumors differ from their nononcocytic counterparts in some respects. The aim of this study was to review and discuss the clinical, histological, and immunohistochemical features of as well as the prognosis for these rare tumors. In total, 16 cases diagnosed as adrenocortical oncocytic neoplasms between January 2011 and December 2016 were included in the study. The demographic data, gross characteristics, histological data, and immunohistochemical data (Chromogranin-A, Synaptophysin, alpha-Inhibin, Melan-A, Ki67, PHH3) were reevaluated. The follow-up data for these patients were added in January 2017. Of the 16 cases, 12 were adrenocortical adenoma, 1 was borderline adrenocortical tumor, and 3 were adrenocortical carcinoma. The tumors equally affected both genders. The tumors were not generally large. Tumor cells had pleomorphic nuclei in ten cases, but it was more obvious in one case. The mitotic figure count was low in most tumors. Atypical mitosis and necrosis were observed in three and four tumors, respectively. None of cases included sinusoidal invasion, vascular invasion, or capsular invasion. We detected the expression of at least one specific marker (e.g., Melan-A, Inhibin-alpha) of the adrenal cortex in all tumors. None of the tumors were immunoreactive for Chromogranin-A. Ki-67 proliferation index was lower than 5% in all cases except three oncocytic carcinomas. In two cases, PHH3 positivity was not seen, while it was lower than 3 of 10 high-powered fields in ten cases and higher in 4 cases. All patients were alive and disease free except for two patients with adrenocortical carcinoma. In conclusion, determining the clinical, histological, and immunohistochemical characteristics of these extremely rare tumors can provide important information for early diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of these cases.Öğe Serum Dehydroepiandrosterone Sulfate Levels in Premenopausal Women with Chronic Lymphocytic Thyroidtis(Endocrine Soc, 2014) Yurekli, Banu Pinar Sarer; Kocabas, Gokcen Unal; Akkaya, Aysegul; Mirili, Cern; Unal, Serkan; Guvercin, Guray; Erdogan, Mehmet
