Öğe Application of a neural network for estimating the crack formation and propagation in sol-gel CeO2 coatings during processing at temperature(Institute of Metals Technology, 2014) Savran A.; Alci M.; Yildirim S.; Yig^it R.; C¸elik E.In this study the application of a neural network to estimate the crack propagation and crack size in CeO2 coatings on a Ni substrate during processing at temperature was evaluated as a function of the Ce content in solutions with increasing processing temperatures from 24 oC and 700 oC. In this respect, CeO2 coatings were prepared on Ni tapes from solutions derived from Ce-based precursors using a sol-gel method for YBCO-coated conductors. The crack size of the coating was determined using an in-situ Hot-Stage ESEM depending on the temperature at a certain time in vacuum conditions. It was determined that the crack size of the coating increased with the increasing processing temperature. Measuring the crack sizes of the coatings using Hot-Stage ESEM is an expensive and time-consuming process. In order to eliminate these kinds of problems a neural-network approach was used to estimate the crack sizes of the coatings at different temperatures. The neural network was constructed directly from the experimental results. It was concluded that the estimation of the crack propagation of CeO2 coatings on a Ni tape substrate are reasonable for the processing temperatures.Öğe The burden of caregivers of stroke patients and the factors affecting the burden [Inmeli hastalara bakim verenlerin yükü ve yükü etkileyen faktörler](2013) Yildirim S.; Engin E.; Başkaya V.A.Objective: The study was designed to determine the burden of caregivers of stroke patients and the factors affecting the burden. Methods: This descriptive research was conducted at Turkey Izmir Atatiirk Education and Research Hospital, Clinic for Neurology with the participation of 80 caregivers who agreed to take part in the research between January 15 and March 15, 2007. Conclusion: In accordance with the aforementioned results, it has been concluded that taking care of a family member in need is perceived as a task and responsibility in Turkish society. Parallel to this, caregivers are not aware of their burden throughout the process and have difficulty in expressing the hardships they experience. © Archives of Neuropsychiatry.Öğe Changes in liver and kidney antioxidant enzyme activities in the rainbow trout (Oncorhynchusmykiss) exposed cadmium(2009) Hisar O.; Yildirim S.; Sönmez A.Y.; Aras H.N.; Gultepe N.In vivo effects of cadmium on antioxidant enzymes such as super- oxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione Peroxidase (GPx) and glutathione reductase (GSR) investigated in liver and kidney tissues of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). Three test groups of fish were subjected to cadmium in concentrations of 0 (control), 1 and 5 ppm. The duration of exposure was 1,3,5 and 7 d. The antioxidant enzyme activities, measured liver and kidney homogenates, were stimulated by both concentration (1 and 5 ppm) of cadmium chloride. Moreover, the dose-response patterns of the antioxidant enzyme activities in the liver and kidney tissue were very similar. All antioxidant enzyme activities were significantly stimulated on the first day of experiment (Day 1) in the tissues at the both dose of Cd (p < 0.05) while CAT activity was stimulated after 3 days in the tissues at a dose of 1 ppm Cd (p < 0.05). The stimulation effect of Cd on SOD, GPx and GSR activities in the tissues diminished after 7 d cadmium administration. However, this effect of Cd on CAT activity diminished after 5 d. These findings indicate that the tissue antioxidant enzymes function to protect against cadmium toxicity.Öğe Effects of long-term extended photoperiod on somatic growth and husbandry parameters on cultured gilthead seabream (sparus aurata, L.) in the net cages [Yapay aydi{dotless}nlatma ile gün işi{dotless}gi{dotless} süresinin uzati{dotless}lmasi{dotless}ni{dotless}n ag kafeslerde yetiştiriciligi yapi{dotless}lan çipuralari{dotless}n(sparus aurata) gelişimleri üzerine etkileri](2012) Vardar H.; Yildirim S.In this study, the effects of the long photoperiod regime (15L:9D) on both somatic growth and husbandry parameters were investigated in growing gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata). Experiments were conducted in high density polyethylene (HDPE) floating cages which have net depths of 14 m and diameters of 20 m. They contained approximately 180,000 gilthead seabream with average weights of 78.91 ± 8.54 g and 71.39 ± 4.06 g for experimental and control groups, respectively. Additionally, artificial illumination was applied to experimental cages for 13 months, while it was not performed on the control group. At the end of the experiments, fishes of experimental groups reached to 425.19 ± 5.06 g on average (total n=362,676), while this value was estimated as 305.42 ± 25.01 g (total n=345,829) on average in control groups (P<0.05). In addition, feed conversion ratio (FCR) was calculated as 2.04 and 2.37 for experimental and control groups, respectively, however significant differences were found between these groups (P<0.05). Moreover, gonadal weight of fish in the control group was significantly higher than the experimental group. Gonadosomatic index was recorded as 0.36% in the control group and 0.15% in the experimental group (P<0.05). © Published by Central Fisheries Research Institute (CFRI) Trabzon, Turkey.Öğe External morphology of European seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax) related to sexual dimorphism [Eşeye Bagli{dotless} Olarak Levrek (Dicentrarchus labrax) Bali{dotless}klari{dotless}nda gözlenen morfolojik farkli{dotless}li{dotless}klar](2011) Çoban D.; Yildirim S.; Okan Kamaci H.; Suzer C.; Saka S.; Firat K.The relationships among 15 morphometric measurements in 219 aliquots of European seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax) were examined with respect to sexual dimorphism. The ratio of females to males was determined as 1:5.1 and gonadosomatic indices (%) were found for males (2.13 ± 0.86) and females (3.63 ± 1.18). There were 4 morphometric characteristics that differed between genders: ventral margin of cleithrum (VMC), postanal fin length (post-AFL), postdorsal fin length (post-DFL), and preanal fin length (pre-AFL). Although there were significant differences between morphometric characteristics (post-AFL, post-DFL, pre-AFL) and total length, no significant differences were found in the VMC. These average ratios were determined as pre-AFL to TL 0.61 +, 0.71 >; post AFL to TL 0.72 +, 0.84 >; post- DFL to TL 0.68 +, 0.81 >, respectively. The aim of this study was to investigate if sexual differences could affect external morphology in cultured seabass and, additionally, to determine sexual dimorphism related to morphological differences during the maturation and spawning seasons in this species. © TÜBİTAK.Öğe The influence of music on anxiety and the side effects of chemotherapy [Müzigin, kemoterapi yan etkilerine ve kaygi düzeyine etkisi](2007) Yildirim S.; Gürkan A.Objective: This purpose of this research is to investigate the influence of music on anxiety level and the side effects on the acute patients undergoing chemotherapy.
