Carbazole based D-A-?-A chromophores for dye sensitized solar cells: Effect of the side alkyl chain length on device performance
    (Elsevier Ltd, 2017) Kiymaz D.; Sezgin M.; Sefer E.; Zafer C.; Koyuncu S.
A series of Carbazole based Donor-Acceptor-? Bridge-Acceptor (D-A-?-A) dyes that contain different alkyl side chains with different lengths have been synthesized. Electrochemical and optical properties of these dyes were demonstrated by impedance spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, UV–Vis absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy, respectively. Herein, we report PV performance of dye-sensitized solar cells depending on the molecular structure of the dyes in terms of comparison of alkyl chain length on the carbazole moiety using an ionic liquid based electrolyte under standard AM 1.5 illumination. The results demonstrate that the dye containing alkyl chain with 4C atoms exhibited better performance compared to alkyl chains with 2C, 6C and 12C atoms. © 2016 Hydrogen Energy Publications LLC

First record of a bathyal leptostracan, Nebalia abyssicola Fage, 1929 (Crustacea: Malacostraca: Phyllocarida), in the aegean sea, eastern Mediterranean [Batiyal leptostrakan, Nebalia abyssicola (Crustacea, Phyllocarida)'ni{dotless}n Ege denizi, dogu Akdeniz'den ilk kaydi{dotless}]
    (2012) Moreira J.; Sezgin M.; KatagAn T.; Gönülal O.; Topaloglu B.
Data on deep sea leptostracans (Crustacea: Phyllocarida: Leptostraca) are still scarce in many parts of the world. In the last few years, several species of Nebalia Leach, 1814, have been reported from the eastern Mediterranean; however, there have been no reports from waters deeper than 100 m. Samples collected recently from Gökçeada, Turkey-at depths of 680-820 m in the Aegean Sea, eastern Mediterranean-included Nebalia abyssicola Fage, 1929. This is the first record for the study area and one of the few known records of this species. Specimens are described and figured to complement previous descriptions. A key for all known leptostracans from the eastern Mediterranean is also provided. © TÜBİTAK.

First record of ophelia bicornis savigny in lamarck, 1818 (Polychaeta: Opheliidae) from the turkish coast of the black sea (sinop peninsula) with ecological features [Ophelia bicornis Savigny in Lamarck, 1818 (Polychaeta: Opheliidae)’in Karadeniz (Sinop Yarmadas?)’in Türkiye Kylarndan İlk Kaydi ve Ekolojik Özellikleri]
(Central Fisheries Research Inst, 2015) Dağlı E.; Şahin G.K.; Sezgin M.; Cengiz Z.
The present paper deals with ecological and morphometric features of Ophelia bicornis Savigny in Lamarck, 1818 collected monthly from the Sinop Peninsula (Black Sea, Turkey) between August 2009 and July 2010 from 4 stations. This study aimed to report the polychaete for the first time from the Turkish coast of the Black Sea and to determine the population density of O. bicornis on the coasts of the Sinop Peninsula. A total of 699 individuals of O. bicornis were collected. The maximum and minimum density was counted at station A in autumn (October, November, respectively). The female individuals of O. bicornis were recorded between May and October. The regression formula for the length (mm)–weight (g) relationship was found to be W=0.0002×TL2.11, indicating that the growth for O. bicornis is allometric. The statistically significant correlation between percentages of coarse sand and number of individuals and biomass of O. bicornis were estimated. © Published by Central Fisheries Research Institute (CFRI) Trabzon.

Likely effects of global climate change on the black SEA benthic ecosystem
    (2010) Sezgin M.; Bat L.; Katagan T.; Ates A.S.
Occurrence and distribution of species in the Black sea are primarily determined by seawater temperature and salinity. The most recent predictions suggest that, by 2100, average air temperatures may be between 2 and 4°C higher than at present and seawater temperatures may be as much as 2°C higher than in 2000. The rise of the coastal zone seawater temperature may be higher than the open sea water average. It is expected that a warming of air and seawater temperatures will result in increased diversity of benthic marine life in the Black sea with adverse effects limited mainly to declines in abundance or loss of a small number of native species. Changes to a minority of biotopes might occur in the long-term. Depending on the temperature increase Mediterranisation of the Black sea fauna is in progress and occurs owing to immigration of new species. The aim of this article is discussing the global warming and the range of likely effects on marine benthic species. These effects may be related to changing water temperatures, changing water circulation or changing habitat. At present, to predict or detect the effects of climate change on marine benthic communities are quite difficult. But we can only provide educated guesses about potential changes and the consequences of those changes for the Black sea.

The response of apseudopsis latreillii (Milne-Edwards, 1828) (crustacea, tanaidacea) to environmental variables in the dardanelles [Çanakkale bogazi{dotless}'ndaki çevresel degişkenlere apseudopsis latreillii (Milne- Edwards, 1828) (crustacea, tanaidacea)'nin tepkisi]
(Central Fisheries Research Inst, 2014) Suat Ateş A.; Katagan T.; Sezgin M.; Acar S.
The tanaid, Apseudopsis latreilli (Milne- Edwards, 1828) is a common crustacean species on the soft bottoms of the Mediterranean ecosystems and occurs in both clean and polluted environments. This study was aimed to determine the sensitive state of tanaid, A. latreillii to the environmental variables observed on the soft bottoms of the Dardanelles. A. latreillei abundance at the sites was analysed in comparision with the organic matter content in sediment and the environmental variables in the study area. A total of 1406 specimens of A. latreillii was recorded during the study. The highest dominance value (Di=30.37%) was for Kepez Harbour where the amount of organic matter was 25.50±12.09% in the sediment. The highest value of dominance according to the sampling seasons was 56.75% for Autumn 2008 (organic matter=21.7±7.99%). The highest sand rate (99.59%) in the sediment was found at the Eceabat sampling point. The highest positive correlation (r=0.349, P<0.05) was observed between gravel content (%) measured at the sites and total abundance (ind.0.09 m-2). © Published by Central Fisheries Research Institute (CFRI) Trabzon, Turkey.

Zoobenthos-inhabiting Sarcotragus muscarum (Porifera: Demospongiae) from the Aegean Sea
    (2002) Çinar M.E.; Katagan T.; Ergen Z.; Sezgin M.
The cavities and outer surfaces of 20 individuals of the sponge Sarcotragus muscarum collected from the Turkish Aegean coast during July-September 1993 contained a total of 148 zoobenthic species with 5299 individuals belonging to seven taxonomic groups. Among these, Polychaeta accounted for 60% of the total number of species, while Crustacea comprised 71% of the total number of individuals and 40% of the wet weight of biomass. The amphipod and decapod crustaceans Tritaeta gibbosa and Synalpheus gambarelloides, and the bivalve Hiatella arctica, were the most abundant species on the sponge samples both in terms of number of individuals and biomass values. The community structure inside the sponges was greatly influenced by the nature of the substratum around the sponge, and by the overwhelming population of the Lessepsian echinoderm Ophiactis savignyi. Number of species, biomass and diversity index values were found to be positively related to the sponge volume. Mean density and biomass of the associated taxa are 0.22 ind cm-3 and 11.63 mg cm-3, respectively.
