Quantitative Analysis of Lycorine in Endemic Galanthus xvalentinei nothosubsp subplicatus by HPLC-DAD
    (Akademiai Kiado Rt, 2013) Somer, N. Unver; Polat, D. Cicek; Emir, A.; Onur, M. A.; Kaya, G. I.
Galanthus xvalentinei (J. Allen) Beck nothosubsp. subplicatus (N. Zeybek) A. P. Davis (Amaryllidaceae) is an endemic hybrid between G. nivalis L. and G. plicatus M. Bieb. subsp. byzantinus (Baker) D. A. Webb. Lycorine, a common alkaloid found in Amaryllidaceae plants, has been shown to display important biological activities. In the present study, a reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatographic method has been used for the quantitative determination of lycorine in the aerial parts and bulbs of G. xvalentinei nothosubsp. subplicatus. A simple method for the extraction of lycorine in low-mass plant samples was employed utilizing pre-packed columns with diatomaceous earth (Extrelut (R)). The chromatographic separation was carried out using an isocratic system with a mobile phase of trifluoroacetic acid-water-acetonitrile (0.01:95:5) applied at a flow rate of 1 mL min(-1) using diode array dedector. The content of lycorine in the bulbs of G. xvalentinei nothosubsp. subplicatus was found to be 0.0028%, however, it was not detected in the aerial parts of this hybrid.

Simultaneous Determination of Lycorine and Galanthamine in Galanthus woronowii by HPLC-DAD
    (Akademiai Kiado Rt, 2013) Emir, A.; Polat, D. Cicek; Kaya, G. I.; Sarikaya, B.; Onur, M. A.; Somer, N. Unver
Galanthamine, used as a drug for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and lycorine possessing important biological properties, are widely distributed alkaloids in the members of Amaryllidaceae family. In the present study, the contents of these alkaloids have been quantitatively determined by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) coupled with diode array detector (DAD) in the aerial parts and bulbs of Galanthus woronowii Losinsk. collected from different localities in Northeastern Turkey. A simple extraction method utilizing columns pre-packed with diatomaceous earth (Extrelut (R)) was used. Chromatographic separation was achieved using an isocratic system with a mobile phase of trifluoroacetic acid-water-acetonitrile (0.01:90:10) applied at a flow rate of 1 mL min(-1). Validation studies were also carried out to show that the method is specific, accurate, and precise. In the tested specimens, the lycorine content ranged between 0.008 and 0.364% whereas the galanthamine content was found to be between 0.003 and 0.506%.

Wound healing effects of methanol extract of Laurocerasus officinalis roem
    (Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2019) Ayla, S.; Okur, M. E.; Gunal, M. Y.; Ozdemir, E. M.; Polat, D. Cicek; Yoltas, A.; Biceroglu, O.; Karahuseyinoglu, S.
Laurocerasus officinalis Roem. (syn: Prunus laurocerasus L.) is a member of Rosaceae family. We investigated the antimicrobial and antioxidant activity of L. officinalis Roem in wound healing both in vivo and in vitro using an excisional wound model model in mice. We used four groups of eight mice as follows: untreated (control), empty gel, extract +gel (L. officinalis +gel), and Madecassol (R) groups. All treatments were applied topically once daily. The scar area, percentage wound closure and epithelization time were measured. L. officinalis promoted wound healing and increased granulation tissue, epidermal regeneration and angiogenesis. L. officinalis extract, which is known for its antioxidant and antimicrobial activities, may be useful for promoting wound healing.
