Calculating the amount of sewing thread consumption for different types of fabrics and stitch types
    (Ege Universitesi, 2014) Do?an S.; Pamuk O.
Nowadays, increasing competition in apparel industry forces the firms to produce with optimum costs. Even minimum increase in costs leads to important results. Sewing threads which is one of the most used auxiliary materials in apparel industry is also an important expense item. In this study it was aimed to calculate the amount of consumed sewing thread for the woven fabrics with different thicknesses. In accordance with this purpose, the chosen woven fabrics which are sewn with two different stitch types (lockstitch and three-thread overedge stitch) and 3 different stitch densities (3, 4 and 5 stitch/cm) has been researched for the sewing area of 10 cm in length. In this study the most commonly used sewing thread (150 dtex * 2 polyester-polyester core-spun thread), stitch types (lock stitch and three-thread overedge stitch) and fabric type (100% cotton woven fabrics) are used. Data taken from this study were investigated statistically for two stitch types and a relation is observed between the amount of consumed sewing threads with fabric thickness and stitch density. And a regression equation was developed with these parameters. In terms of these data, a software which uses the information of fabric thickness, sewing length, order quantity and the stitch density for lockstitch type or three-thread overedge stitch type in order to calculate the amount of consumed sewing thread and number of bobbins was developed.

A computer program development for a garment's pre-cost account calculation in apparel industry
    (Ege Universitesi, 2020) Eren E.R.; Pamuk O.
The minimum difference between the pre-cost and actual cost in the apparel sector is very important for the enterprises to sustain their profitability. The fact that the estimated unit cost calculation requirement is very frequent and continuous in an environment where competition is increasing rapidly increases the workload of enterprises. In order to be able to take orders, companies must calculate the pre-cost estimation as close as possible to the actual cost. At this stage, companies encounter problems in fabric cost estimation which has the largest share especially in product cost. In this study, a computer program, which will be used in both weaving and knit top clothing group, has been formed in order to lighten the loads of apparel companies on the pre-unit cost calculation. The interface of the computer program is formed in C # programming language using Visual Studio and DevExpress programs. The most important attribute of this program is that, it can calculate the product unit fabric quantity and marker efficiency by using only the product measurement table without the need of a model design department. In order to achieve this, equations were created in the area of calculation of product pattern areas. The program incorporates all cost components in a progressive calculation and consequently presents a product pre-cost report. The computer program was performed in two companies that work in the field of export of woven and knit top apparel in Izmir. The data obtained from the program were compared with the actual data from the companies. © 2020 Ege Universitesi. All rights reserved.

The effect of chain width on the strength of the metallic slide fasteners
    (2013) Pamuk O.; Yildiz E.Z.
Slide fastener is a closure device consisting of interlockable elements each attached to one of the opposing edges of two tapes and a movable part called a "slider" that spans the interlockable elements. The different types of slide fasteners are defined by the material of the elements (teeth), which form their fastener chains. They can be of metallic, molded plastic or monofilament plastic construction. In this study, it is aimed to investigate the effect of chain width on the strength of the slide fastener. For this purpose, 5 metallic slide fasteners with different chain widths and properties were supplied, then lateral (crosswise) strength, element pull-off and element slippage tests were performed and the results were analyzed statistically.

    (2008) Pamuk O.; Abreu M.J.; Öndogan Z.
The thermal properties of clothing materials, which relate thermal comfort of the user, involve the heat transfer between a clothed body and the environment. The thermal resistance of a clothing system represents a quantitative evaluation of how good the clothing provides thermal barrier to the wearer. In many years, thermal manikins have been used to measure clothing insulation and to evaluate the thermal environment. The clothing industry uses manikins for development of clothing systems with improved thermal properties. The aim of this paper is to research thermal comfort properties of different disposable surgical gowns (Spunlace-normal, Spunlace-reinforced, and SMS-normal) by using the thermal manikin.

Laser machine creates patterns in fabric
    (2005) Ondogan Z.; Pamuk O.; Dalbasti T.; Aydin H.; Ozcelik M.
The use of laser-surfacing machines, that has laser beam intensity variations, to modify the surface of fabrics without harming the product quality, was discussed. The laser surfacing machine transfers a gray-scale design to the textile surface using variations in intensity of the focused laser beam. The system uses a laser beam to transfer graphics of desired variety, size and intensity on all kinds of textile surfaces, including knitted or woven fabrics and leather. The results show that the laser surface machine enriches the quality of the finished product without altering fabric quality and without requiring harsh chemicals.

    Sewability properties of lining fabrics
    (2011) Pamuk O.; Kurtoglu O.; Tama D.; Öndogan Z.
The purpose of a lining is to provide the comfort of the wearer, preserve the shape of a garment, conceal construction details and raw edges of fabric, thus giving a neat appearance to the inside of the garment. In this study, it was aimed to research the sewability properties of main lining fabrics by using the L&M Sewability Tester. Six types of linings were used and they were grouped according to their warp and weft densities, yarn count and fabric composition. Three groups were generated by considering variations of the warp density, weft density or yarn count, while the other parameters were constant. At the end of the study, it has seen that, yarn count and density have a direct influence on the sewability values of lining fabrics. Also it was observed that sewing needle penetration force of lining fabrics were affected by the fabric density in both directions and yarn count.

A study about the effects of interlinings to sewability properties of the woven fabrics
    (2011) Yildiz E.Z.; Pamuk O.; Öndogan Z.
Interlining is a layer of knitted, woven or non-woven fabric placed between the garment fabrics and facing to reinforce, to give form and to prevent stretching. They are usually used for collars, cuffs, waistbands, pocket flaps and plackets. In this study, the woven fabrics and the woven interlinings that are usually used for shirts manufacturing were examined. 4 woven interlinings and 3 woven fabrics, that have same constructions but different weights were determined. The aim of this paper is to research sewability properties of different woven fabrics fused with different woven interlinings by using the L&M Sewability Tester. The findings were associated with the penetration force, fabric unit weight and fabric thickness. It was found that when the weight and thickness level of fabrics increase, the resistance to sewability increases, too.

Work-related stress in apparel employees [Stres na radnom mjestu u odjevnoj industriji]
    (2007) Pamuk O.
Stress is a mental and physical condition, which affects an individual's productivity, effectiveness, personal health and quality of work. The purpose of the present study is to examine the findings of a large community wide survey on sources of work stress. The participants were 1023 apparel workers at six manufacturing companies producing ready-made garments in four major textile cities in Turkey. A questionnaire was used to collect data on some important topics like psychological strain, relationships at work, environmental conditions, salary and demographic characteristics. Textile engineers working in the participant companies took the main role in distributing questionnaires to apparel workers and collecting them. The survey was conducted in January-March 2007. Most of the questionnaires were returned within 2 weeks. All possible pairwise comparisons are evaluated by Fisher's multiple comparison method. It was found that long working hours, salary and workloads were the main work stress sources for the apparel workers that lead to stress at the work place. This study indicates that employees in apparel companies are stressed due to lots of parameters. Well-planned strategies and organizations that consider the period and amount of the work, good salary and training will provide good results to the employees, companies and also national economy.
