Öğe Additions to the annotated list of marine alien biota in the Mediterranean with special emphasis on Foraminifera and Parasites(Hellenic Centre for Marine Research, 2008) Zenetos A.; Meric E.; Verlaque M.; Galli P.; Boudouresque C.-F.; Giangrande A.; Cinar M.E.; Bilecenoglu M.The present work is an update of the annotated list (ZENETOS et al., 2006) based on literature up to April 2008. Emphasis is given to ecofunctional/taxonomic groups poorly addressed in the annotated list, such as the foraminiferan and parasites, while macrophytes are critically reviewed following the CIESM Atlas (VERLAQUE et al.,in press). Moreover, in this update the bio-geographic area addressed includes the Sea of Marmara. The update yields a further 175 alien species in the Mediterranean bringing the total to 903. As evidenced by recent findings, more and more previously known 'casual' aliens, are becoming established. Approximately 100 more species have become well established in the region, raising the number of established species to 496 versus 385 until 2005. In the period from January 2006 to April 2008 more than 80 published papers have resulted in the recording of 94 new aliens, which is interpreted as a new introduction every 9 days, a rate beyond the worst scenario.Öğe First records of the slender snipe eel, Nemichthys scolopaceus (Nemichthyidae), and the robust cusk-eel, Benthocometes robustus (Ophidiidae), from the Aegean Sea(Akademia Rolnicza w Szczecinie, 2006) Bilecenoglu M.; Kaya M.; Irmak E.Two species previously unrecorded from the Aegean Sea, Nemichthys scolopaceus Richardson, 1848 and Benthocometes robustus (Goode et Bean, 1886), were captured during a bottom trawl off the Marmaris coasts (Turkey). These new records represent respectively the easternmost occurrence of N. scolopaceus and the second record of B. robustus from the eastern Mediterranean Basin.Öğe Growth of marbled spinefoot Siganus rivulatus Forsskål, 1775 (Teleostei: Siganidae) introduced to Antalya Bay, eastern Mediterranean Sea (Turkey)(2002) Bilecenoglu M.; Kaya M.The age and growth of the marbled spinefoot, Siganus rivulatus Forsskål, 1775, were determined based on specimens collected from Antalya Bay (eastern Mediterranean), during the period from October 1996 to August 1998. Total length-weight relationship was estimated as W = 0.0064L3.221 for females, W = 0.0079L3.135 for males. Growth parameters of the von Bertalanffy equation were computed for females and males as: L? = 22.55 cm, W? = 146.8 g, k = 0.267 yr-1, t0 = -0.47 and L? = 21.06 cm, W? = 112.1 g, k = 0.343 yr-1, t0 = -0.54, respectively. Age was determined by posterior body scale readings. Maximum observed age was 8 years, suggesting that the species is long-lived. © 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. It is the first record of this fish species in the Mediterranean Sea. Introduction of the species is probably due to an aquarium release. © 2006 The Author(s).Öğe New records of alien species on the Levantine coast of Turkey(Regional Euro-Asian Biological Invasions Centre, 2006) Çinar M.E.; Bilecenoglu M.; Öztürk B.; Can A.Zoobenthic investigations carried out along the Turkish Levantine coast resulted in identification of nine previously unrecorded alien species: Macrorhynchia philippina (Hydrozoa), Oculina patagonica (Anthozoa), Branchiomma luctuosum (Polychaeta), Aplysia dactylomela (Gastropoda), Synaptula reciprocans (Echinodermata), Phallusia nigra, Pyura (=Herdmania) momus, Symplegma brakenhielmi (Tunicata) and Parupeneus forsskali (Osteichthyes). Except for the shipping-transported O. patagonica, which originated in the Atlantic Ocean, the species are recognized as Erythrean aliens that entered the Mediterranean through the Suez Canal. Some ecological and distributional details are briefly discussed. © 2006 The Author(s).Öğe The occurrence of Apletodon incognitus Hofrichter et Patzner, 1997 (Gobiesocidae) in the eastern Mediterranean Sea(Akademia Rolnicza w Szczecinie, 2006) Bilecenoglu M.; Kaya M.A single Apletodon incognitus specimen was collected from Antalya Bay (Levant Sea, Turkey), which is a new record for the eastern Mediterranean fish fauna. The species was previously known only from the Azores (eastern Atlantic) and the western Mediterranean basin. A description of the specimen is presented.Öğe Range expansion of silverstripe blaasop, Lagocephalus sceleratus (Gmelin, 1789), to the northern Aegean Sea(Regional Euro-Asian Biological Invasions Centre, 2006) Bilecenoglu M.; Kaya M.; Akalin S.Following the recent occurrence of Lagocephalus sceleratus (Gmelin, 1789) in the Mediterranean Sea, our findings reveal that the species is now very common along the Levant coasts of Turkey. A specimen was recently captured in Izmir Bay (Aegean Sea), representing its north-westernmost occurrence in the Mediterranean. The species has a potential risk to humans, since it contains tetrodotoxin (TTX) that maybe a source for food poisoning. © 2006 The Author(s).Öğe Range extension of three lessepsian migrant fish (Fistularia commersoni, Sphyraena flavicauda, Lagocephalus suezensis) in the Mediterranean Sea(2002) Bilecenoglu M.; Taskavak E.; Kunt K.B.Two Red Sea immigrant fish species, Fistularia commersoni (Fistularidae) and Sphyraena flavicauda (Sphyraenidae), are reported for the first time from the Anatolian coast (Turkey) and for the second time from the Mediterranean Sea. Occurrence of Lagocephalus suezensis (Tetraodontidae) at the southern Turkish coast is substantiated and a new record of this species in the Aegean Sea is presented.
