Öğe Diet Composition and Reproductive Properties of European Conger, Conger conger (Congridae) in the Turkish Aegean Sea(Pleiades Publishing Inc, 2023) Bayhan, B.; Taylan, B.The diet composition and reproductive properties of European conger, Conger conger (Linnaeus, 1758) were investigated from the Aegean Sea of Turkiye to compare our data with those from other regions of the Mediterranean Sea and throughout all four seasons. A total of 100 individuals were examined. Totally 19 prey taxa belonging to three large taxon (cephalopods, crustaceans, and fishes) were identified in the stomachs of European conger. According to the relative significance index the crustaceans were dominant food in diet of individuals smaller than 50 cm, while fish prevailed in diet of fish with length between 75 and 100 cm. Histological analysis of 80 gonads showed that all individuals were immature (20%) and maturuing females (80%). Maturing females were with oocytes in the previtellogenic (16% of all fishes) and early vitellogenic phases (64%). The oocyte diameters were 80-476 mu m at previtellogenic (diameter range 80-240 mu m) and 245-476 mu m at early vitellogenic individuals. Immature females had the gonads with the oocyte diameter < 30 mu m.Öğe Diet composition of Belone belone (Linnaeus, 1761) (Pisces: Belonidae) in the Aegean Sea(Wiley, 2009) Sever, T. M.; Bayhan, B.; Bilge, G.; Taskavak, E.P>The objective of this study was to determine the monthly dietary pattern in migratory garfish and to improve our understanding in the seasonality of prey choice. Gut contents of 597 Belone belone specimens collected from the eastern Aegean Sea (Turkey) were analyzed: 79.2% contained food in their guts and 20.8% had empty guts. Crustaceans (36.7%) were the most important prey with a 36.7 index of relative importance (%IRI). Especially brachyurans (13.0%) and copepods played a major role (10.1%), followed by teleosts (26.1%) and other food categories (23.3%) (much of which was of terrestrial origin, including insects). Nannocalanus minor, Clausocalanus arcuicornis, Temora stylifera, Labidocera wollastoni and Oncea media were important copepods found in the guts of B. belone specimens. Analysis of variance of the monthly weight data indicated no significant seasonal differences, except for January and February.Öğe Diet composition of Belone belone (Linnaeus, 1761) (Pisces: Belonidae) in the Aegean Sea(Wiley, 2009) Sever, T.
