Öğe An Assessment of Sustainability in the Fashion and Clothing Industry in a General Framework(Nova Science Publishers, Inc., 2024) Birkocak D.T.; İşler M.The fashion and clothing industry has an important share in the world economy and also has a significant employing population worldwide due to its labor-driven nature. Consumption in this industry had spectacular growth as well, such that clothing production doubled between 2000 and 2014. Therefore, understanding the concept of sustainability and applying its requirements in this sector became essential. It refers to the ability to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. The focus of this book chapter is to evaluate the concept of sustainability in a general framework regarding the fashion and clothing industry. To achieve this, the chapter provides an overview of sustainable development and examines the triple bottom line of sustainability, which includes economic, social, and environmental factors. Afterwards, the two outstanding movements of the fashion and clothing industry, namely fast fashion and sustainable fashion, were examined in detail; the impact of these fashion movements on the environment, humans, and economics were comparatively assessed. In addition, the three key strategies, reduce, reuse, and recycle of sustainability, were investigated towards the fashion and clothing industry. © 2024 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc. As consumer expectations and industry competition continue to evolve, it has become essential to respond to consumer requirements quickly and at the lowest cost. Adapting to the requirements of the industry will be possible with efficient production and the inclusion of the latest technology. In addition to machine technologies used in clothing production, CAD technologies are indispensable. CAD systems, which perform different functions, are used in many stages of the production processes, starting from the design stage of clothing production to the final product. The CAD systems were categorized into five categories, namely body measuring, design, garment pattern design, virtual fitting, and marker design. In this chapter, CAD systems used in garment production processes are discussed from a broad perspective, including the characteristics of the production stages in which they are used, the functions of the systems, and the types frequently used in the market. The final part of the study discusses future trends and industry expectations of CAD systems used in garment production. © 2024 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc. All rights reserved.
