In farms, ascertaining the state of resource use; detecting the causes of inefficiency, and therefore, taking necessary precautions can be achieved through efficiency analysis. By doing so, rational use of resources can be investigated and profit maximization can be realized. In this respect there is no doubt that the achievements of individual farms will contribute to agriculture sector and the whole national economy accordingly. This study aims at ascertaining the technical and economic efficiency of cotton production, which has great importance for national agriculture sector. In the study, the data, which was for the cotton production of the year 2008, derived from 204 cotton farms in the Aegean region in Turkey through a questionnaire, was used. Efficiency scores of cotton farms were measured by using the data envelopment analysis. Technical and economic efficiency scores were found to be 0.792 and 0.596, respectively, under the assumption of variable returns to scale. Additionally in order to determine the factors affecting efficiency scores, Tobit model was used. The study also emphasizes the precautions to be taken into account in order to enable rational input used both technically and economically.eninfo:eu-repo/semantics/closedAccessCottonData envelopment analysisEconomic efficiencyTechnical efficiencyTechnical and economic efficiency in cotton production in the Aegean region, TurkeyArticle1103.Apr16821686N/A
