Bu makalenin amacı, Yamauchi 'nin oyunu olan the Music Lessons 'daki Japon Amerikalıların, Amerika 'da oluşturdukları Japon kültürünü ortaya çıkarmak için onların sosyal ve kültürel hayatından bir kesit sunmaktır. Wakako Yamauchi, baskın Amerikan kültür ve hayatına uyum sağlamakta güçlükleri olan Japon azınlığın durumlarını sunmaktır. Oyundaki karakterler, Issei jenerasyonundandır; fakat en zor durum Amerika 'da doğmuş olan Japon Amerikalıları yani Nisei'yi beklemektedir; çünkü kendilerini yabancı olarak kabul eden topluma uyum sağlamak zorundadırlar.
The aim of this paper is to present a picture of social and cultural life of Japanese Americans in Yamauchi 's play the Music Lessons in order to depict Japanese culture in their small community in the US. Wakako Yamauchi presents the conditions of the Japanese minority group who have difficulty in integrating themselves to the dominant American culture and life. the characters in the play are Issei generation but most difficult situation waits the Nisei (Japanese Americans who were born in the US) since they have to integrate into a society that considers them as aliens.
