Özet

The importannce of the "rhetorical stylistic device" is rapidly increasing through the studies made under contemporary linguistics researches. The rhetoric is defined as the art or study of using language effectively and persuasively. The aim of this dissertation is to analize how "rhetorical stylistic device" are accurately used in headlines in Germany and Turkey, especially in newspapers and to find out how far the "rhetorical stylistic device"s are accurate to convey the information to the recipients. Moreover this study identifies the linguistic elements like metapher, synedoche and paraphase that can cause mass manipulation. In the first part of our study, the importance of the term "rhetoric" is emphasized in linguistics researches. It includes not only the historical development of the term , but it also enlightens the linguistic studies in as special language phenomenon. In the second part, the term cultur is analised according to interculturel communication apparition; which includes also the issue in the third part. In the fourth part of the studie the terms that are used as rhetorical stylistic device rhythm, rhyme, alliteration, semantic figures, archaism, neologism, foreign word , stylistic inconsistency, metapher, metonymi, synekdoche, irony, hyperbel, litotes, paraphrase, personification, oxymoron,pleonasms, synasthesy are detected and exmined according to lexicon by using same turkish and german newspaper headlines. As a result, the similarities and differences of rhetorical stylistic device used in turkish and german headlines and their functions are detected.
