Özet
Eighty two (49 male/33 female) patients with focal liver lesions (mean age 53±10) were evaluated retrospectively to investigate the diagnostic value of ultrasound guided Tru-cut liver biopsy and complications of the procedure. Of biopsied lesions, 68% (63/82) were localised in right lobe of the liver and 23.2% (19/82) in the left. Lesions were 2-14 cm in diameter: in 22 cases smaller than 3 cm and in 60 cases larger than 3 cm. Biopsy material was evaluated cytologically and histopatologically. Insufficient material was obtained in six cases and in seven the histopathologic and clinical diagnosis repeated one week later. Following biopsy, 11 patients (13%) needed analgesics and three patients with intraabdominal bleeding were treated conservatively (a blood transfusion of 2 units each) with good effect. No surgery was required and no deaths occurred. Trucut biopsy was found to be a satisfactory and safe method of diagnosing focal liver lesions.
