Rönesans ve Barok Dönem Avrupa sanatında Memento Mori kavramı

Özet
Ölüm, insanlık tarihinin başlangıcından bu yana insanlar tarafından sorgulanan, diğer varoluşsal sorunlarla birlikte anlamlandırılmaya çalışılan bir olgu olmuştur. Hayata dair her şeyde olduğu gibi ölüm de insanın yaşamına yön vermiş, insanın ortaya koyduğu sanat eserlerine yansımıştır. Ölüm temasıyla doğrudan ilintili olarak, "Ölümü hatırla" veya "Ölümlü olduğunu hatırla" anlamlarına gelen ve Latince bir deyiş olan Memento Mori'nin izleri Antikçağ'a kadar uzanmaktadır. Farklı dillerde, farklı bölgelerde karşılaşılmış olsa da bu deyişin altında yatan düşünce ve vermek istediği mesaj hemen hemen aynıdır. Antikçağ'a ait metinler ve bazı eserler Memento Mori'nin sözlü ifadesinin yanı sıra görselleştirildiğini de ortaya koyar. Bu çalışmada Rönesans ve Barok Dönemleri esas alınmış olmakla birlikte Memento Mori'nin görsel temsilinin, önceki ve sonraki dönemlerin sanat eserlerine ne şekilde yansıdığına da değinilmiştir. Memento Mori'nin insanı düşünmeye sevk eden mesajı resim, heykel, küçük el sanatları ile sahne sanatları gibi çok çeşitli sanat formlarında karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Sanat eserlerinde işlenen bir konu olarak Ortaçağ sonu ve Rönesans Dönemi'nde yaygınlık kazanmaya başlayan Memento Mori günümüze varıncaya kadar sanatta kendine yer bulmuştur. Bu çalışmada Rönesans ve Barok Dönem'de Memento Mori'nin temsil edilişi, geçirdiği değişimler, Avrupa sanatı tarihi içindeki yeri, Memento Mori içeren sanat eserleri üzerinden incelenmiş, sosyal arka plan, eserlerin ortaya konduğu dönemde ölüme olan yaklaşım, inanış ve ölüm ritüelleri, kavramla bağlantılı olan Ölüm Dansı, Ars Moriendi, Vanitas ve ölümün sembolleri incelenerek değerlendirilmiştir. Death has been a phenomenon that has been questioned by people ever since the dawn of time and tried to be understood with other existential problems. As in everything related to life, death has shaped human life and is reflected in the works of art created by them. Directly related to the theme of death, the trail of Memento Mori, a Latin phrase meaning "Remember death" or "Remember that you are mortal", dates back to Antiquity. Even though it is encountered in different languages and different regions, the underlying idea and message of this saying is almost the same. Texts and some works of art from ancient times reveal that Memento Mori was visually expressed as well as verbally. Although the Renaissance and Baroque Periods are taken as the basis in this study, the reflections of the visual expression of the idiom on works of art in the previous and preceding periods are also mentioned. Memento Mori's thought-provoking message appears in various art forms such as theatre, painting, sculpture and small handicrafts. Memento Mori, which became widespread as a subject in works of art in the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance Period, has found its place even in today's art. In this study, the representation of Memento Mori in the Renaissance and Baroque Period, the changes it has undergone, it's place in European art history, the social background through works of art containing Memento Mori, the approach to death and death rituals in the period when the works were created, the Dance of Death, Ars Moriendi, Vanitas and symbols of death which is related to the concept has been examined and evaluated.
