THE OCAK OF SUCAEDDIN VELI: ITS PLACE, ROLE AND IMPORTANCE IN BALKAN ALEWISM

Özet
In this article, past and present belief organization of Sucaeddin Veil Ocak which has significant roll in embodiment of Western Anatolia and Balkan Alewism will be discussed Introducing hierarchical organization and belief domain of the "Ocak" in Turkey and the Balkans, it will be given the distribution of aspirant and spiritual leader "Dede" communities. The belief organization will be analyzed under two main titles with focuses on Turkey and Bulgaria. In the first part, the hierarchical structure and the belief domain will be given by mentioning roles of Sucaeddin Veli Ocak in Alewi belief community in Anatolia from past to present-day. As for the second part, it will be attempted to reveal the place of community named "Otman Babali", "Babai" in Bulgaria and connected to Sucaeddin Veli Ocak, in Balkan Alewism in the parallel with information which was gathered from fieldwork and from register of arresting Sucaeddin Veli Ocak's spiritual leaders "Dedes" on their journeys through the region in 1912 and 1924. At the same time, migrations from Balkans to Anatolian and changes in belief system and also settlement of spiritual leader "Baba" and aspirant communities will be presented in tabular form. In the article, together with refers to publications on Sucaeddin Veli Ocak and Alevi existence on the Balkans, information gathered from our fieldwork will be crosschecked by bringing them in forefront. Thereby, "Ocak" system which is most of the time passed over in studies done on Alevi "Ocak"s will be analyzed as a whole. Differences and changes of the system will be evaluated in the oral and historical context.
