Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu, who produced works in various genres such as critique, drama, prosaic poetry, article, novel, story and memoirs, is a name that left its mark on Turkish literature especially in the Republican era. Yaban is one of the most striking of his novels due to the controversy it has caused. The novel, which reflects the views of an intellectual from Istanbul to the peasant, has been the target of many criticisms during and after its publication especially because of its view of the Anatolian peasant. Due to the criticism of his novel, Yakup Kadri also felt the need to defend it and wrote a preface to the second edition of the novel, opposing the claims that the peasants were humiliated and responded to the criticism by giving examples of tirades stating that Turkish intellectuals were responsible for the ignorance of the peasants. Although it has a right side, the fact that the discussions about the novel remained on a thematic dimension overshadowed the technical examination of the novel and consequently led to a distraction from clues or data while interpreting the novel. In this study, the issues that are the source of the discussions about Yaban novel will be tried to be explained by the concept of “implied author” which was first proposed by Wayne Booth and later developed by other narrative theorists.
