Özet
Bu araştırma üniversite hazırlık sınıfı öğrencilerinin İngilizceye yönelik tutum, kaygı ve genel öz yeterlikleri ve İngilizce konuşma becerisi arasındaki ilişkiyi ve bu değişkenlerin İngilizce konuşma becerisini yordama derecesini belirlemek amacıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu Ege Üniversitesi Yabancı Diller Yüksekokulu Hazırlık Sınıfında öğrenim gören 518 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Veri toplama aracı olarak “İngilizceye Yönelik Tutum Ölçeği”, “İngilizce Sınıf Kaygısı Ölçeği” ve “Genel Öz Yeterlik Ölçeği” kullanılmıştır. Öğrencilerin İngilizce konuşma düzeyini belirlemek için, öğrencilerin 2014-2015 öğretim yılı birinci dönemi sonunda İngilizce konuşma sınavlarından aldıkları notlar esas alınmıştır. Verilerin analizinde, bağımlı değişken ve bağımsız değişkenler arasındaki ilişki “Pearson Momentler Çarpımı Korelasyon Katsayısı” ile analiz edilirken, bağımsız değişkenlerin bağımlı değişkeni yordama derecesini belirlemek amacıyla “Aşamalı Çoklu Regresyon” analizi kullanılmıştır. Bulgulara göre İngilizceye yönelik tutum ve kaygı ile İngilizce konuşma becerisi arasında düşük düzeyde anlamlı bir ilişki çıkmış; fakat genel öz yeterlik ile İngilizce konuşma becerisi arasında anlamlı bir ilişki çıkmamıştır. Ayrıca önem sırasına göre İngilizce konuşma becerisinin İngilizceye yönelik tutum ve kaygı tarafından anlamlı bir şekilde yordandığı bulgusu elde edilmiştir.
This study was conducted with the aim of determining the relation between attitude towards English, anxiety, general self efficacy and English speaking skill of university preparatory class students and the regression degree of these variables on English speaking skill. The sample of the study consisted of 518 students studying at Ege University School of Foreign Languages Preparatory Class. As instruments, “Attitudes Towards English Questionnaire”, “English Class Anxiety Questionnaire” and “Scale of General Self Efficacy” were used. To determine the students’ English speaking level, their English speaking scores in 2014-2015 first term were taken into account. Pearson product moment correlation coefficient was used to analyse the relationship between dependent and independent variables. Also, stepwise multiple regression was utilized to determine the prediction level of the independent variables. According to the findings, there is a weak and significant relationship between attitude towards English, anxiety and English speaking skill. However, there is not a significant relationship between general self efficacy and English speaking skill. Besides, it was conducted that English speaking skill was significantly predicted in order of priorities, by the variables attittude towards English and anxiety.
