Özet
Aim: To evaluate clinico-pathological and demographic findings in women with primary vulvar cancer. Material and Methods: 18 patients diagnosed with primary vulvar cancer between 2005-2011 in Ege University Medical Faculty, Division of Gynecologic Oncology were evaluated retrospectively. Results: All patients were in postmenapousal period. The median age was 70 years. Ulcerative lesions were present in most of the patients (78%) and vulvar swelling was the most common presenting symptom. The vast majority of patients (67%) had squamous cell carcinoma and basal cell carcinoma, verrucose carcinoma and clear cell adenocarcinoma were infrequently diagnosed. 56% patients were in early stage (stage I-II) and 44% were in advanced stage (stage III-IV). 4 patients were considered inoperable because of the invasion to adjacent tissues. Vulvectomy was applied to11 patients of remaining 14 patients and local radical excision was applied to the rest of patients. Superficial inguinal lymph node dissection was performed to 12 patients (12/14) and inguinal lymph node were positive in 50% patients. Recurrens with regional metastasis was determined in one and local recurrens was determined in 2 patients. Time to recurrence after treatment was between 12-24 months. Adjuvant treatment was given to 13 patients (77% radiotherapy, 23%chemotherapy). The median follow-up time was 2.8 years. Conclusion: Ulcerative lesion, tumor diameter larger than 10 mm, lymph node invasion and receiving adjuvant therapy may increase the risk of recurrent disease.
