Özet
Thailand, the country with the first confirmed case of COVID-19 outside of China, has demonstrated many successful elements in the preparadness and response. Universal health coverage, density of health workforce, key role of primary care in the COVID-19 response and community participation stand out as the prominent factors in this success. Collaborative work of public health officials and the community has contributed to the outbreak control in the first year of the pandemic. However, the economic and social burden of the pandemic has been heavy in the country which is a dependent economy. In 2021, when vaccine coverage was low and restrictions were loosen, it was observed that the number of cases and deaths increased due to highly contagious variants. © 2022, Turkish Medical Association.
