Özet
This study aims to develop a clear and systematic rhythm notation for Turkish Folk Music. The unique rhythm structures and components of Turkish folk music cannot be fully expressed with existing terminology and notation systems; This leads to a lack of documentation and options in the regular rhythmic register. The main concept of the study is creating a healthier form of identification, classification and notation system data of the rhythms specific to Turkish folk music. In the first chapter of the study, the criteria for evaluating the concept of rhythm, the components that make up rhythm and the analysis methods of these components are discussed in detail. Additionally, the deficiencies in the current rhythm terminology were discussed and the need to reconsider and develop this terminology was emphasized. In this context, it has been stated that the deficiencies of terminology have important effects not only on rhythm notation, but also on rhythm education and understanding Turkish folk music in a broader context. In the second chapter, classification methods based on rhythm components in Turkish Folk Music are discussed. The examination of the compilation studies carried out with the aim of expressing the rhythmic structure of Turkish folk music correctly, the problems experienced by these studies and the relations between meşk (traditional education process within the master-student relationship) and notation are discussed. In this section, different classification approaches to the concept of time in Turkish folk music are evaluated and suggestions are made to classify the unique rhythmic features of the specified music. The third chapter focuses on the rhythm notation model proposed for Turkish folk music. In addition to the rhythm notation systems of Western Classical Music, the notation systems of instruments such as drums, tabla, tombek and conga used in different cultures were examined and these studies were taken as a reference to the original rhythm notation model developed for Turkish folk music. The content of this model includes details specific to the notations of instruments such as Asma Davul, Bendir, Kenar and Doli; Therefore, the study allows the rhythmic expressions of these instruments to be stated accurately. In general terms, the study aims to express the rhythm structures specific to Turkish folk music more systematically with notation and thus contribute to the documentation and preservation of traditional Turkish folk music as a cultural heritage.
